Thank you to Fenris for posting a freebie.......but also, thank you to hawkwinddotcom as I wasn't aware of the information about IAMS (although maybe your post could have been a little less confrontational to the original poster).
raymond, I hear what you're saying about other companies not doing "the research so the products are effectively being tested on your pet" but I'm pretty sure that there aren't many pet owners who would do this to their pets: ".... force-fed vegetable oil, had chunks of muscle removed from their thighs, and been 'de-barked' by having their voice-boxes cut out in a painful and bloody procedure.", so it's not quite the same.......0 -
I am currently weening my cats off iams have read about their practices here http://www.iamscruelty.com/.That gum you like is coming back in style.0

I have just been having a look on the Iams website as I was concerned about the earlier claims on this thread.
It's a bit too long to copy on to here but here are the links for what they have to say on animal research testing.

I have 2 bags of Iams in my cupboards but will have the time to research this further before I buy more. I'm sure I'm probably buying from brands with unethical animal research practises in ignorance but I guess knowing about it, I might think twice before buying again.I've been lucky, I'll be lucky again. ~ Bette Davis0 -
Having looked closely at the site, if you click here it tells you that almost all the petfood you buy from the supermarket comes from this kind of research background. If that's the case, then that website is basicly telling us that we can't feed our pets! They list Felix, Whiskas and Go-Cat, amoungst others, all of which I feed my cat! The ones they say are fine are the ones I've never heard of!
It's all good and well telling us to boycott the brands we know, but if we can't actually FIND the brands they say are fine to feed what are supposed to do? Starve our furry friends?
I have to admit, I'm not convinced by their claims. I'll be contacting both the RSPCA and The Blue Cross for more info as I support both of these organisations . I did have a quick look at the RSPCA's website last night and found no reference to Iams, even in their archive section.
And, I'm glad that, at least, some of you found the offer useful!0 -
If you go onto the PETA website you can find petfoods not tested on animals, I've copied it here.

The ingredients in commercial pet foods are such that they are potentially dangerous and yes most major companies test on animals.
There is a big difference between the animal testing that most do and the tests that Iams does. A lot of animal rescue organisations have boycotted Iams because of this.
Natural foods, like Yarrah and Burns are more expensive, but do not contain potentially harmful additives, so they do not require testing. Yarrah is mostly protein from organic meats, so to test that would be like testing dogs and cats after eating chicken that we might eat ourselves.
I looked into changing the diets of my animals some time ago, not just because of the animal testing, but because of the vast amount of inedible crap that goes into the pet food. I can highly recommend both Burns and Yarrah. Yarrah is the only food I have been able to feel one of my cats who seems to have a severe allergy to something in most pet foods.0 -
Father_Adi wrote:Well i say thanks. Too many ppl on here waiting to slap ppl down at the first opportunity. It's okay being all moralistic if you can afford to be.
I don't think it has anything to do with being moralistic, the second poster was just arming people with facts. If people love animals then surely they want to be aware of this. The OP was not aware and now is. I have been in a position where I had enough money for food for me or my dog (long time ago) and I fed the dog, but not with IAMS! It's not the cheapest on the market anyway. Burns will send you out free samples if you ask and it actually worked out cheaper for me than a lot of other foods anyway.0 -
Did anyone else have problems entering into town name into address line 2? it seems only 4 characters limit , what silly muppet created that form , some 14 year old between his 30th bowl of cholocate cerals.
only joking about the 30th bowl. But who test these things before they all let loss on the general public.
I would have been shot in my previous life as a computer programming for having a field limit of 4 characters on an addressline2 field.0 -
Yes, totally out of order, but at least an apology. Have ordered mine.
Being a new member, I too have noticed criticism, usually because somone has posted an item previously posted. Better to post many times than not at all. :T :T :T :T0
