Hi me again still not been able to sort this out so I am going to try what DCFC79 has done .........but I am a bit confused..... If I turn off the net then how will I be able to download and install it?

Sorry if this is a dumb question peeps.........

i think ive got you a little confused,

first step, i downloaded the service pack from the link provided by alienrik but i think the 1 by gaming guy is the same 1

second step, once the pack is downloaded disconnect the pc from the internet(the service pack is already downloaded) and i turned off my firewall and anti virus(i turned both off so i may have been a bit overkill and i closed other programs eg firefox down so all i had open was the service pack box)

third step, once the service pack was installed i restarted as requested by the dialogue box, while it was starting up i reconnected the pc to the internet

fourth step, once the desktop was up and running i turned the firewall back on and anti virus,

hope this helps, any other questions just ask

also YM whats your firewall and anti virus and maybe we could help regards to turning the 2 off,

I assume this is some advert on the download page? I'd advise following the second link and getting it directly from Microsoft as the adverts on that page are going to confuse things further before you've even managed to download it.
  • As suggested, download service packs from Microsoft, and NEVER from any other site, as there is a possibility of the service pack being tampered with. You can then install locally by running the file. You can check though your settings->control panel->add or remove programs to see what updates have been installed

    Are you running XP?
    If so try this
The fix is to register some dll files

Click on Start/Run and type in the box
    regsvr32 /s wuapi.dll
    Click OK

Repeat the above for all of the following dlls
    regsvr32 /s wuaueng1.dll
    regsvr32 /s wuaueng.dll
    regsvr32 /s wucltui.dll
    regsvr32 /s wups2.dll
    regsvr32 /s wups.dll
    regsvr32 /s wuweb.dll

    The Updates should install now

Is it SP3 or is it .NET 1.0 SP3 that you are having problems with? That error suggests it's a .NET problem you are experiencing.
