Help needed - with new phone with sim only for my 12 year old daughter

Would reaally appreciate any advice :

My 12 year old daughter has a sim only contract with Vodaphone £10 per month for 100 minutes and 500 texts which is fine except she's broke her phone

She wants a touch screen phone (preferably pink) and has got £100 saved up. We went into the Vodaphone shop yesterday and their PAYG touch screens start at around £250 which is way too much.

Any ideas on what phone she could get - she likes the LG Cookie but at phones 4 u they have said they do not do this for Vodaphone. So - should I buy it from say "3" and then get it unlocked. Am completely confused - my firm pays for my mobile so don't really understand the technicalities

Thanks in advance for any replies

my daughter (19 ) has this phone and loves it ,

    http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/mobiles/mobile-phones/LG-KP500-COOKIE/PPAY

she will have to pay £97 + £10 top up but not sure if any way out of this but still cheaper than £250 you have mentioned. she just buys it as payg phone and puts her own sim into it .

opps just read your post again and see you mentioned lg cookie lol visit a carphonewaehouse or order online. lol

The sim only contracts only lasts for a month (mine does anyway and think they all do) so as you are not tied into a contract any more you can look around for the best deal.
  • i bought the LG KP500 cookie in the 02 shop for 97.86 pounds and i got 5.06 off it or 10.00 top-up

Not sure if anyone mentioned this - but if you buy a phone from Carphonewarehouse they come unlocked - basically meaning if she bought a O2 one for example, she can use her Vodafone sim in it! :D

I had the LG cookie.. it was ok, but im selling it on ebay! haha!

They have the pink LG Cookie at Carphone Warehouse for around the £100 mark on the Vodaphone network.

My 15 year old son has just bought the LG Viewty which he loves (doesn't come in pink though!)

    No they don't.

It depends what stock is in store but usually if the phone is PAYT they they will usually be locked, and come in a branded box by the network with a sim card in in and it's already locked.

Contract phones are usually generic stock and they put the appropriate sim into the card. If you get a network branded phone then usually Orange and T-mobile stock will be locked and o2 and Vodafone will be unlocked, but again depends what stock is in store

Of course if a phone is network exclusive (like the Iphone, or the Google T1) then they are always locked to the provider. If it's something that was recently exclusive to a network it may be locked as they still have the branded exclusive stock to get rid of.

Recently bought an LG Cookie from Carphonewarehouse on O2 PAYG for £97 and I didn't have to pay £10 top-up as I was already with O2 (used my own PAYG O2 sim) and also received £8 credit as it is classed as an upgrade. It is also unlocked. I know that for sure as I have used my Orange PAYG sim in this phone. CPW staff will usually tell you if it is unlocked if you ask them. I think they do this offer on vodaphone as well.
BTW I am very pleased with the Cookie. It's easy to use. Looks good. And, as I live in a poor signal area gives me a better signal than I have ever had with any other phone. As you can probably guess, I love this phone!!
  • Tesco Mobile currently have the LG Cookie for just under £85 on PAYG.

But as Joolz wants it on Vodaphone is it unlocked?
