So who does the honest, British patriot vote for these days? I should come back home and start the Sensible Party!
I keep telling you guys, a celebrity party with a cabinet made up of Simon Cowell, David Beckham, Kate Moss, Lewis Hamilton and a ghostly reconstruction of Jade Goody as minister for Culture & OK! Magazine.
The party could change their name each year, depending on the biggest sponsor.
They would win by a landslide.0 -
Good idea Cleaver but I think you should replace Kate Moss with Cheryl Cole/Coleen Rooney to maximise votes. Far more popular these days0

Frankly I'm surprised by your response RP - in a good way BTW. I've always seen your posts as pro-Labour partisan
I am a pro-Labour partisan. But I'm also honest and I have always said when my side do or get something wrong. I spend a lot of time rebutting "facts" thrown from the other side which gets me the image in their eyes of someone who will say anything to defend Brown.
In this case something very wrong has happened under the nose of Brown and its his fault at least indirectly. That has caused damage to my party and he needs to face up to that. I do think however that this is by no means the end of spin and smears. All sides actively engage in it - against each other in spats between rivals and against rival parties. Most of it goes on out of sight (apart from the resulting story of course) and most of it is carried out by "loyalists" with tacit concent from their boss. And no thats not me trying to pin the blame elsewhere, its just a statement of the blindingly obvious.
From a partisan viewpoint I do hope that Cameron gets ever angrier and repeats his demands for a personal apology from the PM. Once the latest Tory smear emerges - and it will - he'll look like an utter pratt. I hope at least he has musseled his own smear doctor in the form of Andy Coulson - the idea that unlike Brown he has a whiter than white team when he has the former editor of the News of the World running his comms team is very funny, and funnier still that he is trying the argument with a straight face.
Silly also will look all those being smeared in the email if it turns out that for all their mock horror they love a good smear themselves - we've already touched on Osborne smearing Brown, Cameron smearing Fox and that woman smearing scientists. I wonder what else is out there. Interesting too that Osborne's wife is complaining against the press - reinforces my point about Libel that any outlet publishing the alleged libel is just as guilty as the original author.0 -
Go on Rochdale, give us some substance to the "Tory smears" - I don't know anything of them. Maybe you could start on:
Osborne smearing Brown, and Cameron smearing Fox.
All I know is that there's some pretty filthy stuff coming from the labour party. I'd be saddened, but it would do your competitive position good, if you could substantiate your position.0 -

I posted links to both of them earlier in the thread. Osborne was roundly criticised for suggesting that Brown was autistic and later "clarified" the remark to say something different. Fox complained loudly to Cameron's team that they had been spreading rumours that he was gay during the 2005 leadership election.0 -

sorry, I realise what you mean, but, I read with some confusion at first.0 -
I'm sorry but I really don't think you can compare the situation with Nadine Dorries and what has just happened between Damien McBride, Derek Draper and others.
And yes I did read the link you posted earlier.
Are you able to point to anything that the conservative government under David Cameron have done which is truly comparable?
By truly comparable I mean have any labour party mps had lies made up about them by people working for the tory party with the proven intention of destabalising the labour party.
I just ask because you talk about latest tory smears and I'm struggling to remember previous ones (that didn't occur back in the days of the Miners Strike and so forth).
Or do you mean that there is a smear about the tories which labour is about to unleash? I wouldn't have thought that was particularly wise if so. However bad it is and however true it is it will reflect more badly on labour than on the tories. I don't think people are that impressed that labour are spending their time trying to dig up dirt when they're losing their jobs right left and centre.
Great link btw Generali0 -

Does it really matter if its truely comparable? I'm fed up of the grot and sleaze whatever shape and form in comes in0 -
Rochdale considers the leaking of mps expenses to be tory smearing. I don't consider this to be remotely comparable because (a) what is being leaked is true and (b) there is no evidence that the mole is a tory and (c) it doesn't even seem all that likely that the mole is a tory because details of tories who are abusing their position have been leaked as well.
So yeah, if he's going to rant about tory smears in response to this then I want to know what he's talking about and I don't want to hear about mp expenses leaks or things that happened back in 1984.0
