http://www.fool.co.uk/news/investing/company-comment/2009/04/24/lets-smash-some-cars.aspx?source=ufwflwlnk0000001The vehicle scrappage scheme will waste resources, delay the inevitable slump in car sales, and hurt other sectors of the economy.0

This is a nonsense scheme ... how many people who have genuinely been running a 10 year old car will be likely to want to upgrade to a brand new one? Totally useless act of market distortion put in place so that the Government can get headlines making it look like they are doing something."I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand." — Confucius0

Nissan are now offering it for 8 year old cars. This will only be made available to people who have 8 year old cars that were built in their Sunderland factory. Seems bizzare.
Thats 51 plates!0 -

I just posted about this over on HPC. I agree that most people who run 10 year old cars aren't in the market for a new, but for me it couldn't have come at a better time as I subscribe to the buy new and run it into the ground philosophy.
I'm now looking for a new car, and if I can get a £2500 bounty for my 1998 rover so much the better - but i'd keep quiet about the fact and negotiate based on being a cash buyer...!
Excellent, I wonder what the criteria will be, what ever it is some how I think you will fit it, or nobody will. :T0 -
They will claw it back by putting duty on fuel up so we all pay it back in time whether you buy a new car or not. Pointless really .I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left. :rolleyes:0
