help with pet

Hi,
not sure if this is the right place to ask, but we have a old dog of about 15yrs who has become incontenant and wee's and poo's quite a lot in the house. Thankfully she always tries to go into the hall or the kitchen where it is tiled instead of using the carpets. Has anyone had this experience before? Is there any tips on how to help prevent this or incurrage her to start using puppy pads or anything?????

many thanks.

    Hello Nikkei

I'll move your thread to the 'Pets & Pet Care' board.

sorry to hear that - an oldie of mine developed diabetes which often led to her peeing in the house, always whilst trying to make it to the door, bless her.

Has your dog been checked over by a vet to rule out any specific medical causes, other than old age?

You need to see a vet really to get your dog checked out properly. There are many medical reasons why this might be happening - liver & kidney disease for example.

Yes definitely get her to a vet apart from kidney disease etc. she could be suffering from ongoing infections. There are medicines for incontinence. If she wets her bed or hard floors use diluted bio wash liquid to clear up the smell.

as suggested, get her to a vet.

Perhaps its time to say goodbye (especially if she is distressed)?

    Hi,
    thanks for the replies.
She has been to the vet recently as she has fluid on her lungs and a slight heart murmer, I told the vet that she is slightly incontinent. He has given her some tablets for the fluid on her lungs which makes her drink more - meaning more peeing. The vet checked her out and just put it down to old age, as she is still very lively at times and still enjoys life, so would def not put her down. It's more annoyance on my part (cleaning up wee puddles about 3 times a day!) than a worry for her health as she is fine apart from the above conditions, but again the vet still thought she had a few good years left in her until it started to turn bleak. Has anyone tried to retraina dog into using puppy pads?

I had the same with my old dog, sadly it was about the time I had my daughter and I just couldn't risk him on the carpets with her crawling around so he ended up spending a lot of time in the kitchen, out of her way and easily mopable floors... Eventually I rehomed him with another member of the family... Sorry I can't be of more help...

Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.
