aw bless her. glad it is nothing serious, there is certainly no need to put an animal to sleep just because it is incontinent.

here is a link to the dog nappies i mentioned earlier

Cleaning up after can also be part of the problem. Cleaning solutions contain a chemical that masks the smell to us humans but allows the dog to still smell urine, hence they go there again. You need to use a solution of biological washing detergent or you can buy a product called 'simple solutions' from Pets at Home. This is fab, slightly expensive but really does the job

Why do people take so long to make take this decision? I can't really comment on an individual case but the OP has to look at the whole list of ailments and make a decision.

I for one would hope that when I get into that position the end will be just round the corner.

i am just suggesting ways forward for the OP which might make life easier for them until the time comes (and as her doggie is 15 years old I am sure the OP is aware that that will be sooner rather than later). it will certainly be easier to pop a nappy on an old dog than try to retrain them to use puppy pads. what is wrong with that?

Nothing at all. I was trying to be gentle (not normally very good at that sort of thing). Incontinent, fluid on lungs, heart murmur and 15 yeras old perhaps it is time to let go.

I have a dog with a similar condition - she's happy in herself, she's not distressed when she soils herself, she just gets on with her life - greeting me most mornings with a wagging tail and jumping up (she's 16 1/2). She has Activate tablets to help with dementia, and if I don't get a new lot of tablets when the old ones run out, we can see a difference in her within a few days :(

Whilst I agree when the time comes, it's better a day too early than a day too late - whilst the good days are outnumbering the bad, why not let the dog continue to enjoy life?

I'm not a fan of nappies though - my dog in particular, being part collie, as a lot of coat on the back of her legs, and this has to be washed regularly to stop her smelling - I can see a nappy holding the urine etc close to the skin, and that can't be good, just for the convenience of not having to clear up.
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.
