Im sorry but it seems like you are using a sledge hammer to crack a nut here. They probably have no idea its upsetting you. If you know when they are there, you say its nightly? then why not keep an eye out and then go and have a quiet word with them?

They are probably just feeding the birds. I cant see why its such a big problem.

its trespass. if someone came into my garden i would be protecting my self with my firearms.and then argue with the police that i used reasonable force.

maybe a big sign saying stop feeding the birds or I will set a pit with spikes..... you have been warned.

    its trespass.

Depend where in the UK the OP lives. It's certainly not trespass in Scotland according to the relevant Act.

I think the cheapest and most effective option is for someone to stay up either with a camera, or to challenge the 'intruder'.

Who do you think it is (not their name just age, sex, description)? Do they live near you?

Why do you think they are using your garden? Why does the other flat resident in your block say?

  • If i was that bothered, i'd just stay up one night with a camera on a tripod, set up and ready to snap at the 'intruder'

Otherwise, have you got a webcam? WHsmiths have got one for about £8 at the moment. Combine it with this- http://www.hssvss.com/ - free webcam motion detection software. Try to gather some information about when it happens

Probably a birdlover throwing it out of the window of the upstairs flat. Have you asked?

We have a nightly trespasser (between midnight and 7am) in the garden of our rented ground floor flat - nothing 'nasty', they're throwing bread on the lawn, but it's a pain to deal with as I'm disabled, DH is ill and we have a toddler who is always happy to eat. It's been going on for about 2 months now and we're completely fed up with it.

The garden is never completely dark as there is a lamp-post just outside the gate, it's about 30' long and we can get an 'ok' view of the front gate/path from one window (but not a good view of the back gate and side wall from any the windows due to the layout).

Can anyone suggest a cheap solution to getting a snap of our visitor - we think we know who it is but we need evidence - we have an exceedingly limited income at the moment.

I have PC (XP) and Mac (OSX) and we're happy to move them into the 'room with a view' for a while. We also have a few digital cameras (ixus 400, ixus 860 and the kids have fuji and a nikon ones I think)

Is it possibly coming from the window above you?

No, it really isn't someone feeding the birds. There are no other residents at present and there are no windows overlooking it and you would have to go to some effort to throw the bread over the fence or climb in over the back.

Yes, it is turning into a big deal for us. If I'm on my own it takes me 20 minutes to clear it up and then I'm knackered for the rest of the day. Neither of us are well enough to stay awake all night!

We suspect it's an old neighbour who the agent and landlord encouraged to leave because of his anti-social behaviour.

In short: we've ruled out neighbours, upstairs windows, birds bringing it in from another source, batty old biddies thinking we're the local park... This is deliberate trespass and we reckon it is done with the intention of causing distress- why else would they climb an 8' wall to put bread in the garden?

you're prepared to spend £1500 to stop someone feeding the birds?!
Why not spend a tenner on a dummy camera and a warning sign?

No, as previously mentioned I have a PC and a camera - I would have needed to spend under £60.
