ongoing Peugeot 307 repair costs

Hi my wife has a 03 Peugeot 307 HDI, in June 2006 we she heard a knocking which transpired to be the bushes.

Consequently these were replaced in june 2006 at the dealers (Simon Bailes) for a cost of £256.26 (thankfully I had my credit card).

The knocking started to come came back in May2008 (the dealer didnt want to know) and is now back with a vengeance and strongly suspect will be requiring replacement once again come MOT time.

The question I would like to ask is, how long should bush’s last and is this a fair price?. My wife doesn’t drive the car hard and has done 18k miles since these were replaced, is this normal?

    With a car of this age, you should be looking for a decent independent garage to avoid main dealer prices.

    Also, from memory, early 307's were known as a bit of a money pit - not half the car the 306 was.

    The 307 is a terribly hateful car. Yet people still like them. The diesels are nice to drive, but thats about it.
  • two problems for me this week with my 307sw 02 reg.
    1, electric sunblind decided to break the plastic catches and now will not retract all the way.
    2, good friday the spare wheel winch has decided no to budge so i hope i don't get a punctue in the next few days as i am unable to get at spare ( who ever thought of a cable winch in the first place) possible £40 fix. fingers crossed:mad:

    Our pick up and i daresay many others have a cable winch for the spare, don't quite know how you'd lift it up to the chassis and secure it without unless you're a very strong chap and don't mind lying in the mud under the thing.

    I think you have to use a bit of good old spray grease or the like on such things in exposed places, stands to reason they'll sieze up over time.

    So very poor design on a car, surely the well under the boot mat is the obvious place to store them, they stay nice and clean in there.;)

    iv'e managed to free the winch enough to release the wheel but now have a new winch on order at only £60. fitting looks a doddle though.

    If 'twer me i'd remove it and clean/lubricate the thing and i'd bet it would be OK, at least you'd be able to see then if the cable was serviceable...its probably only the gears jammed up with salt crud.
    If it works ok pack it out with grease.
    Then cancel the new one.

    pain in the !!!! when you always have a loaded up car like me, nothing !!!!es work off more having to take all of their computers out in the rain to change a spare!

    Ah, but it is a nice clean dry spare, not caked in wet crud, and siezed in to it's cradle.;)
  • ive never had a problem operating mine, the spare doesnt get much dirtier than the other 4 wheels
