Well I know that they're not paying their office staff a pittance.
Most of companies I've mentioned pay above average wages so I'd be interested in hearing where you got you information from which purports to show otherwise (ie FS schemes are accompanied by lower salaries). Maybe it's starting to happen now but it hasn't been the case before.
BT are now starting to pay less because they're in s*** street....after years of plenty (nb they used top have a share option scheme too which is now probably worthless??)0 -
BT no longer offer a final salary scheme I can only talk about Skilled engineers when the final salary scheme was in place and the wages were a lot lower.0

Hi DD, not seen you around for a while. I broadly agree with you but many now come out of Uni with pretty darn useless degrees. I find it quite funny that as a part time musician, most of my life, there are colleges set up to train people in becoming sound engineers as an example. Fairly fruitless in imho.
Hi Pobs, nope I've not been around much since I started my new job. I agree with you that there are some pretty useless degress, but that has always been the case. There are those who study vocational degrees in order to get into their chosen career and those who choose to study something non-vocational because they're interested in that subject area and wish to learn more.
If someone chooses to get into thousands of pounds worth of debt in order to pursue an interest that gives them no financial gain, then good luck to them - I'm just glad that they're not using my taxes to do it.Mortgage Free in 3 Years (Apr 2007 / Currently / Δ Difference)

You have to wonder why the leaks are all about labour MPs as I’m sure just as many Tories are up to it to.
The Tories don't claim to be in politics to promote and advance the interests of the ordinary working person.
Many Labour MPs have never worked in the private sector let alone run a business. Also the Labour party is sponsored by unions through the payments of their members who are ordinary working people many of them are in low paid jobs. So in short Labour MPs are milking their supporters who can ill-afford it twice.
The Mirror or some other paper has shown William Hague's expenses and tried to make out they are extreme but as he is an MP for Yorkshire it's reasonable for him to have a second home in London.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

They are though.
It's just due to the increase in the number of students going into higher education they now have to pay some money towards their degree tuition costs.
Also some degrees i.e. History, foreign languages, Sociology, Politics are useless on their own however people can end up doing useful things after those degrees i.e become a teacher, social worker, prison officerI'm not cynical I'm realistic

Totally agree. The old utilitarian argument regarding education belongs in the Victorian era, where it originated.0 -

Actually, although we don't say it, that is why we are in politics - well maybe to promote and advance the interests of every ordinary, not just working, person.
It is the biggest con perpetuated by the critics of the right that we don't care for everyone.0 -

.........It seems you must :rolleyes:I had to pay for my university education, they got theirs for free. Not many went to university, years ago you had to be very bright to go
They got final salary pensions, I don't.........How do you figure that one ?
I've got to work longer than they did, to pay for their greed. On the whole they started work earlier, my parents started at 14
They bought their homes a lot cheaper then we do in relation to their wages. Rubbish , they had to put down huge deposits, and it was difficult to get mortgages
need I go on ?0 -
