Belkin F5D7050 USB Adapter Problem

Recently purchased a Belkin Modem Router and USB Adapter package from Comet. Managed to get the modem router working fine with my laptop (with Centrino).
Loaded up the F5D7050 software and drivers onto the other computer in the house and plugged in the USB adapater. Would not connect.
The laptop is still connected to the modem router so no problems accessing the net. Just problems with the USB adapter talking to the router. There is a program that comes with the F5D7050 that brings a little computer icon into your toolbar. If the computer turns red it hasn't got a connection, if it turns blue, it has. Always when we turn the computer on it's red. But very occasionally when we turn it on it does turns blue - so 1 time out of 20 it does work. What is the problem. Has anyone had similar problems or can anyone help? Please!?

The fact the red monitor is present is a good sign, I suspect you have encryption on your router which is preventing the USB adapter from connecting. Even if your router and USB adapter is working perfectly, it will not work if you haven't told the USB adapter the correct encryption key.
These USB adapters are good pieces of kit, I've installed several without a problem. I do recommend you use the extention cable though as I don't feel the adapter's USB connector was not designed to be pulled and pushed on a daily basis. This extention cable problem is not related to your inquiry.0 -
No Can't find anything worng with the encyption key. Something seems to be wrong with the usb adapter. When I plug it in it turns blue (which means it has found the connection) then it turns red. Then sometimes it turns blue again. It's as if it's fighting something? Maybe a nother program? Should I turn off the Windows Wirless Network Wizard program? - and then just run the belkin adapter program? Could that be conflicting against it?0

its fighting your encryption setting I think. What settings have you set your adapter too? Do you use Windows Zero Configuration (WZC) or your belkin configuration window to set up encryption?
If your using the WZC when you select the network and enter in the key, does it connect or does it say "connected with limited connectivity" ?0 -
Thanks for trying to help greyster. We are trying to connect with both Belkin and Windows. The problem is the router is not listed in either the Windows Wirless lists or the Belkin Adapter AP list. It's just not registering there is a router to connect too, yet we are coonected to it with the PSP and laptop. Just the adapter won't seeem to find it. Any further Ideas?0

Is the laptop connected via cable? Make sure WZC is enabled. To confirm this the right click option should be "disable Windows Zero Configuration" when you click on the belkin monitor. Do not select the option however.
With WZC selected, can you see the network?
How old is your centrino laptop?0 -
The laptop is not connected via a cable. The laptop is around 2 years old and is connceting with the centrino chip. Both the PSP and the laptop connect to the router straight away. the laptop connects via the Windows Wireless configuration.0

When you open up the WZC screen it shows no network. Over the past couple of days it did show the router (and a linksys one nearby), but as I said 99% of the time it won't work/connect/register there is even a router there!?0

have you made any changes to the router recently?0
-
None whatsoever. It just seems to be what mood the USB adapater is in. 1 time out of 30 it works. I just need it to work ALL the time! Help!0

Have you tried changing the the wireless chanel used at the router?
What chanel is it set to? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
