The car is in my daughters name, she will be the main driver.

However would be handy me being a named driver, as her car is more fuel efficient & if/when we do go somewhere thats some distance we can take her car & share the drive (I'm only 3rd party on mine if I drive another car).

Nope there is no catch at all, it is handy if you are on the policy as a named
driver as like you said if need be you could drive it

Works with young drivers but when I (aged 50) tried to add my 75 year old dad to my (admittedly group 20) car policy the cost quadrupled.

Adding 55 year old OH cost nothing and some years brings it down a little bit

and thats the way it should be  doing it the other way around (ie you as the main driver) is called fronting, and is illegal.

are the quotes that you are getting coming down in price MrsE? remember that it is also cheaper to pay up front for the year, rather than paying by monthly direct debit. It's a large whack of money to find in one go if you are not used to it, but we now save the money each month by direct debit so we know wo will have enough. As our premium comes down slightly each time we put any spare money towards the road tax or maintenance fund (which we also save for on a monthly basis).

Yes, she now has 10 months insurance, & with monthly repayments factored in its £752.

In 10 months time she will get a much better deal (with no claims) & pay it in one lump sum.
