  • Hi, don't know if you could help me but there's alot of info on here regarding 18866 and 1889 and being with BT. But I am with NTL and wondered how much are the calls thru 18866 and 1889 on a NTL line? I don't make any calls abroad, just local and national.

They are a bit more but the details should be on their websites. I think, from memory with BT dialing a UK call through 18866 is 0p per minute with 1p connection fee whereas with NTL its 1p per minute and 1p connection fee.

Hey I'm back. Slight distraction, grandson unwell but OK now. That query from the NTL user interests me. I've written elsewhere that I've given cheapest call info to family but realised that one of them is on NTL and wondered if I'd dropped a clanger, see the "clanger" post.

  • Jane - i was on NTL until yesterday. The NTL charges for 1899 is 3p connection per call then "free" thereafter, 18866 is 1p connection per call then 0.5p per minute thereafter. This is for calls to land lines. Mobiles - I find 1899 cheapest, they charge 3p per connection + 10p per minute Mon - Fri (all day) and 3p per connection + 2p per minute on weekends.

A LOT cheaper than NTL's prices!

  • read alot about 18866 so now registered.
also brought the box from orchid electronics so that cuts
    out the extra dialing!!!
the only concern i have is that 18866 have not yet contacted me yet!!
does anyone else know if this is the norm for them??
seems to good to be true these prices or not?? ???
    BAKERBOY.

Have you checked to see if 18866 is working? Try making a call through it and you may well find you are live ;)
  • hi edinburghlass (have I spelt that right ? )
18866 does seem to be working ,just haven't heard from them yet !!
  • bakerboy, don't hold your breathe waiting to hear from 18866, its a bit hit and a miss with them but as your account is obviously live just use it and they will bill you at the end of a month or so!

You can of course check your account online and the calls appear on your bill immediately so you can check just how much you are spending.

I have used 18866 for over a year now and I still marvel at the thought of phoning my friend in NZ cheaper than I can phone my next door neighbour in the morning :D Recently the rate as gone up to 2p a minute to call NZ but when I consider it used to be something like £1 a minute and that meant trying to work out what time of day would be cheaper and would they be up or asleep!

I love it and regularly phone my friend a couple of times a week whereas it used to be high days and holidays.

edited to add, are you waiting on an account number from them by email as I guess you need that to be able to log in. Anyway don't worry about it as they can be a bit slow or if you are with AOL you might have problems as AOL doesn't accept emails from 18866!
  • I have raved abouy 18866 for months but recently a bill for £8,53 went unpaid by my bank and the service was withdrawn. I went to the website and tried to pay by VISA. Still no connection. I e-mailed them three times, then tried the alternative of sending a cheque and letter by post.
All this has happened over the past three weeks. I have not had the courtesy of a reply and still have no service.
    What do I do next?
I want to stay with them because the overseas deals are excellent.
