My Land Rover cost £850 ouch :eek:Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
A quick test...
With the engine cold - take off the radiator cap. Start the car. Look into the top of the radiator.
If your head gasket has gone the pressurised air(plus fuel mix) will be forced past the gasket into your water system and the water in your radiator won't just tremble from engine vibration - it will hubble and bubble meaning toil and trouble.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. or for more visible sign - when the engine is cold - replace rad cap with a condom and start engine - if your condom blows up - your gaskets gone! - or get a sniffer test done just like jock on "the garage" lol0

Thanks everyone. I failed on my MOT (car is a Daewoo matiz by the way) and the garage quoted a dead head gasket. A friend of mine who fixes cars had a look and he swears it isn't the headgasket so just wanted to make sure. Car is burning oil but this is due to there being a major gash in one of the oil pipes which meant that there was oil being sucked into the air filter. I just want to make sure that I am right in saying that the 'garage' conned or tried to con me. They quoted me £870. I told them to go away (in similar words)! lollife isn't a dress rehearsal, make it count! :beer:0

to do the job properly it might not be worth it to be honest, an r reg rover cant be worth more than £500 if your lucky.the job would cost at least £400 to be done right, to be done cheaply would be about £200 but wont last long at all.
this is why a lot of people dont have a high opinion of rovers!!...work permit granted!0 -
