how can i block a website?

in Techie Stuff
i want to block a website but i dont want to use a program to do it because i dont want to make it obvious that i've done it if that makes sense? i've googled it and all i get is a step by step on how to do it with a hosts file but it wont save it! is there another way i can do it?

Some software will protect you host file from being edited like Spybot Search and Destroy do you have it installed? You could use opendns http://www.opendns.com/ you can place your own blocked sites as well as using pre-made filters a big screen will come up saying its been filtered.0

what browser are you using?
this video shows quite a good method. but i think it only works on XP.

sorry i forgot to say i'm using vista (unfortunately)! not particularly computer minded i'm afraid lol. that wont work cos it wont let me save the hosts file if i edit it, but thank you anyway.Mummy to

If you're running Firefox go to Tools then Options. Click Privacy and then Cookies then Exceptions. You can then enter the website you want to block.0
