falls into the category of REAL 4 X 4 and with performance that would leave Porsche gasping for breath, as well as costing many, many thousands less than a cayenne pepper.

Are you serious? The Porshe can do 0-60 in 5.2 secs and a top speed of 169mph.0 -
IMHO there should be a different driving test and possibly different speed limits for vehicles significantly different to what is normally termed a 'car'.
I'll justify this by saying that these vehicles are as different to drive as a lorry is and therefore a test should be taken in an appropriate vehicle. Secondly, force = mass x acceleration - therefore with an increased mass, the only way to minimise the force (that one of these vehicles would exert upon a 'car' in an impact) is to limit its speed. So, if they are half as heavy again then 30mph would become 20mph and 60mph would become 40mph.
The most common argument in favour of large 4x4s is that they are safer. Taking this arguments to its n'th degree would see ALL drivers in these hideous machines. The safety benefits would then be significantly reduced and the impact on the environment massively increased.
The best form of safety device would be for all cars to have air bags removed and a 6-inch metal spike put on the steering wheel. People may then drive more carefully.
(I won't start on speeding tickets in this thread.)
Large 4x4s do say a lot about the person behind the wheel.

I spoke to soon Nicholas.
The Dodge Ram SRT 10 is 0-60 in 5 secs, 1/4 mile in 12.9 secs, 0 -100 -0 in 18 secs and tops out at over 150 mph. I suppose it depends on which Porche your neighbours gone for - Oh and it costs about £45000.

5th Gear probably could not wait for a D3 to be delivered; I ordered one today and have three months to wait.
FWIW I live above the snow line for 3-4 months of the year and the deepest I had to dig my drive out was about 1m overnight of snow this February.
It's a TDV6 with partical filter if that pacifies the treehuggers. My wife will be driving it to work through the local schoolyard and will not stop for kittensIn the United Kingdom 200,000 people are bitten by dogs every year and some people will die as a result. Of those bitten, 70% are children... So the question has to be asked....... Has the time come to ban children?0 -

But if a vehicle is travelling at constant speed (be it 20mph or 70mph) it is not accellerating and therefore no force
Momentum is mass x velocity which is more like it. To keep this constant across all vehicles we could say:
Speed limit for 1 tonne car = 75mph
Speed limit for 38 tonne truck = 2mph
Then everybody would be on complaining about traffic jams!
I agree with you about the "test" thing though. I occasionally drive a 7.5-tonne truck on my car licence, or tow a caravan. It makes a BIG difference to the required skillset. Can I help?0 -

This is probably the most ridiculous thing I have ever read. A 4x4 is absolutely no different to drive than any other car, you just sit slightly higher.0 -

Stick around. There is not a lot more ridiculous than some of the drivel being spouted by the anti 4x4 crowd.0
