End of Orange contract

Totally clueless about mobile contracts. Coming to an end of an 18 month contract with Orange. We had Orange contract as we had no landline at that time. Now we do have a landline, we hardly ever use the mobile. Can we change to pay as you go? Any advice would be appreciated.

You can change to whatever you want once you are out of contract, Cheapest option if you don't want contract would be to just get a PAYG SIM from your prefered supplier and use that in your existing phone. You might have to get the phone unlocked from Orange though but this shouldn't cost you much.

If you do change to payg, please don't make the mistake a lot of people posting here do.

Your contract will not end until you activate the payg sim they send you. A lot of people just stick in in a draw and then notice months later that the network is still taking money from the bank acc !!

Another reason for ensuring that you cancel your DD when you end the contract.
A lot of people seem to think that the phone company do this-they won't and can't -it has to be done by the account holder.

    TWO points.

    1) The contract doesn't 'come to an end' - this is a fallacy. It continues until you cancel. All that changes is that you have met the minimum term restriction on the contract, nothing else. If you stay, the contract runs on regardless.

    2) Do NOT cancel the DD when you end the contract. Call charges outside of any bundle are always paid in ARREARS, so cancelling the contract means this payment will fail, and if it goes unnoticed, will fry your credit file. ONLY cancel your DD one month after the service ends, OR when they advise you your account is clear.
