There isnt any viruses for the Wii as of yet... if there is one coming out, im sure Nintendo will release something.

Although most wireless modems come with a firewall built in

You don't need to worry about any of this stuff with consoles.

So far as I'm aware there is nothing to protect your Wii from nasties.

Equally so far as I'm aware there are no nasties it needs protecting from and as it will be connected through a wireless router it will benefit from the firewall in that (or the very least NAT).

There is/was a way to upload any Miis you had created so others could see and download them.

Some wag discovered that it was possible to produce Miis with a rather strange appearance (the name gives a clue). These started appearing in droves as others copied the idea.

They were around for a few weeks and then all of them vanished. I can only assume that Nintendo removed the ones that were on their system and developed some way of detecting and blocking new ones. They've probably patched the Mii creator by now to prevent their creation.

Originally it was a free download but now you have to pay. I missed out on the free download by a short time so don't have it. It's just a web browser. I presume people would use it for video streaming as webpage text on a TV is dire.

I'd say that using the Wii basic channels is pretty safe for children.
