BT bill

Hi, since I've been using other phone service providers for my off-peak and peak calls, and just using BT for line rental only, I haven't had any call charges on my quarterly BT phone bill.

But my problem is that with the Caller Display service that I usually got free, BT have, for two quarters now, charged me for the Caller Display usage, listing it as 'one-off charge' at the top of my phone bill. The previous quarter it was just over £4, and this quarter it is £6.52.
When I asked BT about it in the previous quarter, they said it was because I had made no chargeable calls through BT.

But how is that fair? It seems to be a penalty. Has anyone else had this happen? And is there anything I can do about it, other than cancelling the Caller Display facility? And how can the charges be listed as 'one-off' if they've done it twice now?

I think you only get it free if you make chargeable calls with BT. As you're not doing so they've started charging you for the service.

I'm with sky and they give caller id for free. They also do line rental now too, cheaper than bt so no need to deal with them at all. See what services you can get from whoever you're with

Provided you're not with Sky, Talk Talk or AOL for your calls, you should be able to make free weekend UK 01/02/03/0845/0870 calls of up to 60 minutes each via BT by using the 1280 prefix. Problem solved.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

So would that count towards the minimum call quota, even with calls made during the free call times at weekends?
