    The attenuation is negligible as the original poster suggested. Try checking one with a multimeter - the resistance will certainly be way less than an ohm.

    But you neglected inductance, capacitance and dielectric loss, which become significant at high frequencies.

    A major reason for noise pickup is that typical telephone extension lead in not twisted. In a twisted cable noise mostly cancels itself out.
