More aol problems!

Hi i wonder if anyone has had the same problem as me?? I have had an aol email adddress for the last 5/6 years. Initially it was set up when i lived at home and we used to have a dial up connection, i paid £5.99 a month for this (at some point it changed to £9.99). It was set up on direct debit and i left it at that, since then i have moved out and got my own connection etc.

After having a tidy up of my direct debits the other day, my OH asked why i was paying for my email address as i should be able to get it for free. I rang AOL and EVENTUALLY got through - it transpires that i should of told them i was wireless. It would of been obvious to them as my internet provider has never been AOL for the last 4 years, so i have technically paid at least £250 out for something i have not had.

Does anyone know if i am entitled to my money back?????

No you're not, as the service has still been available to you during that time and AOL have been supplying it. If you don't ask them to cancel it, they will carry on billing you for it.
How did you manage to miss this on your bank statement for four years though?
I'm not quite clear what the wireless connection has to do with AOL?

  • I knew they were taking it out i just didnt twig i didnt need to pay for my email address. I am a newly reformed MoneySaving member :-) every penny counts now, was worth a try though!! They originally were my dial up provider, but havent been for years. I am with Tiscali now with my wireless. Havent had a dial up account/connection for years.

You'll have to put it down to experience. Just think, you've now saved £350 over the next 4 years.
PS: if you 're a newly reformed MoneySaver then you might consider moving on from Tiscali, as there are better deals around with much better service.
