LCD v Plasma

Surprise! a Sony (LCD only) Dealer saying Plasma is on its way out0
-
I was TV shopping in the States awhile ago, and plasmas were very thin on the ground. If a retailer stocked them at all, they were out-numbered 10 to 1 by LCDs.
Even on amazon.com, they have 1,119 different models of LCD TV available, and only 179 plasmas. We had originally planned on getting a plasma, but in the end, we had to go for LCD.0 -
I'll email you privately a copy of the correspondence I had with the editor.
The devices involved were the Sony RDR-HXD890 and the Sony RDR-HXD995. The errors were serious; I almost didn't buy one because of them. Fortunately, though, Richer Sounds (as always) got their description of these items correct and that set me on the right track.
It's worth adding that three salesmen at our local inner-city Curry's (including the manager) made the same error and swore blind that they were right.
Needless to say, I bought one from Richer Sounds - in their Boxing Day sale - to reward them for their diligence (and also because they were charging £40 less than Curry's!).
Cheers for that leopard

That's extremely interesting, Marty J. Many thanks for posting it.
As to the phasing out of plasmas, I know my friendly local AV dealer (who specialises in Panasonic and Philips but sells other brands as well) came back from the Consumer Electronics Fair in Las Vegas last January telling me that the main topic of conversation and concern there, this year, was the threat of plasma televisions being banned from sale in the EU because of (misguided, he argues) concern over their power consumption.
I suspect the real cause for plasma being in decline generally is the change from CRT monitors to LCD monitors for computers and the degree to which this has fuelled research and development of LCDs, bringing down their price at the same time.
Whereas plasma is into the dead end of use for televisions only.
aliEnRIK,
You're most welcome, Great One :A . I've sent it: should be in your mailbox by now.
Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:
As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.
