http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4773880.stmBT is to increase its broadband speeds by up to four times from 31 March.
The firm said 78% of its users would be able to access at least four megabits per second (4Mbps), compared with the maximum of two available now.
Almost half would get 6Mbps and those close to their local exchange would be able to access 8Mbps.
Some rival providers already offer up to 24Mbps, but their services are restricted mainly to clusters of users in big cities.

I'll believe it when I see it....I haven't even managed more than 1MB on my BT line yet, let alone the 2MB that everyone else in the country seems to benefit from

Oh my God - mine is 31 Mar 06 as well (although it does have the word tentative written after the date)
My exchange was one of the last to be enabled. I can't believe I'm one of the earliest ones to get maxed.
Hang on - what exactly does ADSL Max enable mean? Knowing my luck it means the max I will ever be able to get at that exchange and I bet that the max is 2MB

Same with my exchange.
Tenative means:
Not fully worked out, concluded, or agreed on; provisional: tentative plans.
Uncertain; hesitant.
So I think they mean it is provisioned for the 31st but cant hold there breath.
We will all just have to wait and see.

I am on a 2MB account but can only achieve 1MB because I am quite a distance from the exchange.
Does this mean that if my exchange is upgraded to 8MB I will only achieve 4MB, or will I still be stuck with 1MB?0 -
adslmax goes live on 31st march... so you'll find that every exchange will be enabled this date
i have also read, that any bt broadband users will have to commit a further 12 months if they take the new speeds0 -
dont have a clue, good point though... your exchange may have ADSLmax on 31st march (tentativley), but your house may not. only one way to find out... have to waite and see! doubt you will get maximum speed though... in worst case scenerio, you may be stuck with 1mb :'(... look on the bright-side, at least you wouldnt have lost anything!0

It depends on your telephone line. My exchange does 2MB but my line is only capable of 1Mb. I asked BT a while ago. Give them a ring.
My exchange says - 31 Mar 2006 (Tentative)£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4
