Hi can anyone out there give us abit of advice.
My husband was awarded dla both the lowest care conponent & the top conponent for mobility,he got a disability car & after 6 months we decided to go & live in Greece he just could'nt face another winter in the UK.
So he informed the DLA now they let him keep the care conponent but stopped the mobility conponent we where shocked & told them so they said they cant pay it if you do not reside in the UK,now he is 60 in December he received Mobility because he cant walk very well & he still cant does living in Greece miraciously cure people i dont think so but yet they still pay expats over 60 the heating allowance why is this?
So he is stuck indoors most of the time now because of this unfair decision we came to live in greece for a better quality of life & to live where we can afford the heating bills & to eat a better & cheaper meal.
But no people like my husband have to suffer do we have to return to the UK & its cold winters to get the help he deserves.
Thankyou for reading this from one disgruntled wife who loves her husband dearly who does'nt like to see him suffer like he is doing.
Yours Faithfully M.

Mobility is not paid when you live abroad, you are only entitled to the care component. It is part of the Member State Agreements between countries care is paid, mobility is not. It would be no different for a Greek moving to the UK.0

I suppose the answer is if you want the warmer weather, different lifestyle and lower bills you live in greece,if you want the mobility payment you come back to the Uk,the choice is yours.Wont the lower cost of living offset the loss of mobility payments?
Or you can transfer your national insurance contributions to the Greek system and claim under their welfare system instead.
Why should the UK taxpayer subsidise people to move to sunnier climates and live well off the UK system, thereby not putting any money back into the UK economy but rather boosting a foreign one? From Poland...with love.

I'm thinking that, unlikely but maybe, you may get more sympathy from the board if you spelt in correct English - fare/fair anyone?
Otherwise I think the comments posted already are actually quite mild and more than reasonable when put in context.0 -

Well, you have the option to transfer into the Greek system. You can transfer every penny of National Insurance that you've ever paid to Greece - and then claim Greek benefits. Of course, they won't be so financially lucrative, so I imagine you'll be staying under the UK system. The UK system has rules - and one of those rules is that the particular benefit isn't payable if you live abroad.
If you don't like it, then move back to the UK. It really is that simple.2,the cost of living is alot more expensive.
You chose to live and work there throughout your entire life. You cannot have your cake and subsequently eat it.3,the poles soon left the uk when the work started to dry up.
And the vast majority left behind their National Insurance contributions, thereby benefitting UK citizens.
What has the Poles working in the UK got to do with your inability to claim certain benefits in Greece, anyway? From Poland...with love.

The cost of living in Greece is reckoned to be around 30% lower than the UK. HRM must be a substantial part of your income to make it no longer worth while.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Could be even lower in some parts, although the strong Euro might negate that. From Poland...with love.
