And at the end of the day, you will be in receipt of an education that would probably cost £9000 plus per year if you had to pay for it. How's that for a saving?!0

penny pincher my son went to a grammar school and everything he needed was much more expensive than the local comp school. he wore a bright purple blazer and the sports kit as they all belonged to different houses were colour coded to say what house they belonged to.as for p.e they were only allowed to wear dunlop green flash which were 20pounds a pair and used to get pinched evey month or so. but on the education side son did really well and is at uni now so it is worth every penny you have to spend out. Before you point fingers, make sure your hands are clean !;)0

Well done to your little DD, and I hope you get the uniform nightmare etc sorted. If there isn't a regular second hand clothes system why not start one ? Also have you tried a wanted ad on freecycle, may be parents of other children in the same school registered who have ones they no longer need. One day I might be more organised...........

glad she's getting on well.
giving that you had a unique problem in that you had to have specific items rather than "bottle green v neck jumper" (where the rules (and prices
) are much more flexible), perhaps it would be nice for you to add to the thread all the moneysaving things you did to help make it all a bit more affordable, so the thread can help others who find themselves in the same situation? know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
Sounds like the school I went to (a long time ago!). Are we talking north london, with uniform from Harrods? If so, you used to be able to buy uniforms second hand a couple at special sales at the school a couple of times a year.Penny-Pincher!! wrote:There is only one other boy going to the same school as her and the blazer is very unique (a certain purple) so unable to get anywhere else.
Its a right pain, but know its going to be best school for her. Even if I can buy a 2nd hand skirt in reaonable condition I will be happy. Probably get her one new one and try and get a 2nd hand one as a back up IYKWIM.
Thanks so much.
