I read these threads with interest trying to find someone in the same position as me, but no luck.

I also parked in a Beefeater/Premier Inn car park this morning and paid my ticket only to return to find an Excess Charge Notice stuck on my screen. The reason stated on the ticket was "Failure to display a valid parking ticket" which I had done and it was clearly visible on the dashboard.

My Physiotherapist is just up the road from this car park and I was having a half hour session of physio and then was going to meet my daughter for an early lunch in the Beefeater after it finished at 11.00am. I purchased my ticket at 10.15am and it was valid until 1.15pm.

When I saw the notice, I walked into the Premier Inn really to ask them to verify that I had a valid ticket and the Receptionist promptly said it was because the restaurant was shut so it was clear I was not in there as the ticket was issued at 10.46am. I know it's true I wasn't in there then, but shortly after I was going to be and I was really cross at this. The car park easily holds 50 cars and there were 3 cars in there - not as if I was taking up a space needed by someone else.

I was so incensed by it there was no way I was going to use the bar then so I drove off with my daughter to somewhere else.

The problem is I am now stuck with a £60 ticket - £40 if paid within 14 days.

Can I do anything about it?

    Thanks.

Yes, just ignore these clowns. You do not owe them a penny. Do not contact them and do not respond to any of their silly letters. For further reassuarnce please read the "stikies" at the top of this forum. They will tell you all you need to know about private parking tickets.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

Thank you so much - it helps to put my mind at rest. Normally I would just go and pay it straight away to avoid the bigger charge, but I had paid and was just frustrated at the response by the Receptionist.

That's a honey trap isn't it, they allow you in the car park, they allow you to pay to park, and then try and rip you off because the venue is not open.
The chances of ever getting near a court are probably nil. However if they did a judge would rip their ears off for this practice.

Do as advised and ignore the parasites.

I have just received the letter from them now - some weeks after the excess charge was received.

They have told me that I have to pay the full amount and that DVLA have been notified.

Should I still ignore them or write back with the proof of payment (the ticket)?

The only problem I see is that you wrote them a cheque. This is a contract in itself and irrespective of what the amount was for.
Can't see them doing much about it though...
