Can anyone please explain why I now own 2 new dresses, some jewellery and some new underwear?

I actually think I might have a problem you know.

Sal - it was real life shopping - I went to Debenhams to avoid spending the evening bickering with Stu!

Buffy - I can afford it (sort of) but it's eating away at my savings, and that's really bad because I will need them when I have to buy a new house. :o

Gemmz - Sort of - I am seeing a friend again next week. Not really a date though. ;)

That depends what's meant by the word "expect".

"Demand" and "aspire" are totally different, but are both facets of "expect".

Gemmzie - Exactly! :D I am not the worlds most confident person as you might have guessed, so feeling as though I look okay has a big impact on whether or not I can relax and enjoy myself. And I hadn't bought new clothes for years up until a few months ago, but it's difficult being a single girl, and wanting to date, but only having baggy, shapeless clothing to wear. So it's an investment in my future really.... :rotfl:

Sally - yes, pretty dire at the moment. :( He hates me apparently, and takes every opportunity to show me so. I think it's because we are hitting the 6 month point and I think at the back of his mind he thought we would be back together and he wouldn't have to renew the lease on his house.

I've tried to make sure I never give him false hope, because it IS over for good - but I do feel very very guilty about how difficult he is finding it.

I was exactly the same Snags, clothes always used to make me happy and it's taken me a long time to get control of the splurging, I think I had a serious problem at one point. Now I have a good wardrobe of wearable clothes, I've just gone too far the other way and don't have the confidence to wear them

*hugs* for the situation though, sounds tough.
