  • I am another huge fan of the sainsburys basics range, not only is it cheap but i think the quality of the products are really excellent.
I don't think i have come across anything in the basic range that has dissapointed me yet and i have got through a lot of it in the past year or so.

I would be tempted if Waitrose did it. :T

Not used WaitroseDeliver, Ocado were very good on the one occasion I've used them.

Can chime in with the comments about Sainos Basics btw, virtually everything I've tried from the range is good. This coming from a previously die-hard Waitrose staff member-come-shopper. ;)

I feel like 1carminestockys stalker - I love Sainsburys and think they are miles in front of any of the other supermarkets!

Just thought I'd add my vote!

Another vote for Sainsburys. I often visit different supermarkets as I'm within a short drive of most. Sainsburys is the only one where I feel confident that the basics equivalent will be at the very least edible. I've made purchases from Asda and Tesco that have ended up a false economy as I've binned them because the quality or taste was so poor!

I bet half of you are like me and eating with your eyes, the Sainsbury's Basics packaging is a lot more attracting than Tesco Value. I normally shop at Tesco, but - for example - somehow managed to try Basics Orange Squash before I tried Value, and it turned out I liked Tesco's better in this case (Sainsbury's use Sucralose over Aspartame which I think makes the difference).

But either way I agree with you guys. My smallish Sainsbury's has bigger Basics ranges than my big Tesco. Tesco removed the Value chocolate for a few months, and now it's back I think Basics is still cheaper. Tesco don't do any kind of value Peanut Butter, etc.

Hasn't Aspartame courted controversy due to serious health concerns? Whereas Sucralose is the only artificial sweetener ranked as "safe" by the consumer advocacy group Center for Science in the Public Interest. I'll stick with the Sainsbug one here. :D

Yawn. If we're going to throw around names of groups we haven't heard of, how about the National Cancer Institute finding "no statistically significant link between aspartame consumption and leukemias, lymphomas or brain tumors." We could throw quotes around all day, so let's save the Aspartame arguments for another thread. Or just read the whole of that page so you can be convinced how clear cut it is.

Yawn. I'll still stick with the Sainsbug drink, thanks. :p And you drink what you like, it's of absolutely no consequence to me.

Fair enough :p. I just feel like how many of you will think "What's the point of Branded/Finest/Organic/etc.? They're paying more for the same thing" that some of you are making the same decision based on evidence you heard ten years ago on the news that has turned out false.

Not to mention I bet half of you drink it without knowing. Diet Coke/Coke Zero anyone?

    I've been Money Tipped!
Sainsbury Value Range is extremely good quality - also their dark chocolate at 27p per 100g bar is very toothsome. I would even consider it at three times the price, I enjoy it so much. :o

I suppose the best thing for the OP is to sit down with a large drink and a note book and use mysupermarket to compare value/smartprice/basics for the most frequently used items. Basics, in my experience, is the best quality though I would say it is the packaging that I like the least. I loathe orange packaging and my cupboards are full of it :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Aspartame - I feel better if I avoid it, ie Sainsbury Diet Cola rather than Diet Coke. Also Aspartame is in some of the basics range, it is not a blanket matter. Each to their own.

Also, if you are getting a delivery, I have never had a delivery from Asda, but locally Tescos are appalling and Sainsbury is very helpful and pleasant delivery drivers.

Also - and this may be important - when I look at mysupermarket and put in basics to the search engine, not all of them show up, and I don't think that they do on the Sainsbury website with the same search, just on the listing. Certainly the dark chocolate, some of which has been delivered this morning, does not. Also some feminine products.

I think that Sainsburys are certainly coming out the favourite here!
Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!
