iPhone insurance options
Hi everyone,
I am about to buy an iphone direct from O2 (as an upgrade on my current contract) and want to make sure I have considered the options for insurance and that I've got my rationale right - it seems that the main options are:
1. Take out O2's insurance at £10 per month
2. Get insurance through a different, cheaper company for around £5 per month - but the feedback on these companies seems to be very negative and sounds like they will try everything to get out of paying claims
3. Add cover onto my home insurance for valuables away from the home. I have yet to ring and find out how much this would be. But from reading other threads it sounds like they would cover loss/theft without force, but don't cover fraudulent use - however I'm happy that I could report a theft/loss fairly quickly.
The contract I am looking at is 24 months but the phone warranty is only 12 months. So I want to make sure I wouldn't be left with a broken phone and still paying a contract. Option 3 wouldn't cover this, but presumably mobile phones are covered under the sale of goods act? So it would have to have a reasonable life, and if O2 are selling 24 month contracts then it must be easy enough to argue that it should last at least this long. Does this sound right? I'm just not sure how easy it would be to get them to repair/replace it if I did have a problem.
Any opinions or other options I can look at?
Thanks in advance for any advice anyone can offer.

I phoned my house insurance company and they would cover it for loss and accidental damage. I did get a call from someone claiming to be o2 selling me the insurance for half price!0

I can`t remember to be honest. He phoned and said something like he was ringing from 02 about the insurance for your iphone. I said I didn`t buy your insurance and he said that`s why I`m ringing. He offered it for half price as long as I paid it in full there and then. I told him unless he can offer it for free then I`m not interested.0 -
the calls from swansea did my head in royallyhelpful tips
it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
their - 'owned by them'
they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)0 -
I upgraded my current acct (lloyds) and now pay £7.50 a month for all the services incl phone ins- actually i'm paying £7.50 for phone ins as I have travel ins/AA etc at the moment, but as these lapse I'll swap to the bank ones.
O2 told me that the bank wouldn't replace iphone with iphone but I'm assured by the bank that they will replace the phone exactly as insured if there is a problem.
I get accidental damage and cover for that mostly mythical water damage too (not disputing if yoiu drop the phone in the bath it wont work, but the number of "my phone is broken, THEY say water damage but it was never wet" threads on here makes me a bit sus).0
