except that in this case it sounds like another extension has been daisy chained off the one that is being removed because he says there are wires either side of it.
As the poster has a DECT phone disconnecting all the extensions from the master socket on seems a good move as the alternative if not a DIY job will likely see him £50 worse off for a trivial job. That of course assumes the DECT base is plugged into the master. It will also probably improve any ADSL there may be on it.0 -

Thanks for all your help for a damsel in distress!
Problem solved, electrician came in checked it all out and it was not in a loop with any other phones.
Charge- nothing- only took him 5 mins and he says he gets enough other work from me!

So not clear how it can have had one wire in and one wire out-where did the 'out' one go to then?No free lunch, and no free laptop0
