parking fine (central ticketing)

Hello Moneysavers!

I hope someone can advise me.

In January I parked at the tram park and ride car park to travel into manchester for work. As I arrived at 8.15 all the spaces were full, and i didn't want to have to park my car on a backstreet, so i tucked my car out the way at the end of a row of spaces. When I got back to my car that evening there was a ticket on the windscreen for £60 for being outside of a marked bay. However, the date on the ticket was January 2008, not 2009.

I wrote to Central Ticketing to say I was not parked in the car park on that date. They have written back to me today to advise that my appeal has failed, I was still outside a marked bay, and I have 10 days to pay the £60, or it will be £85.

Do I have any other way out of this? The only things i can think of are
1. My car wasn't registered until August 08 so I wasn't the owner on the date on the ticket, or
2. They weren't in charge of the car park in January 2008, which they weren't!

I am already contacting the tram network and my MP to say how ridiculous it is they should be fining the users of the public transport system, and it seems a strange coincidence that they have started using central ticketing to control their carparks just after the 'no' vote on the Manchester congestion charge, which would have expanded the tram network and the number of park and ride spaces; but that's another issue!

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks!!

I suggest you open your own thread here as it'll get lost amongst all the others here.

I've moved this into its own thread :)

I'm assuming this is a private parking company?

Unlikely I know but may as well confirm, does the ticket make reference to any railway byelaw(s)?

If this is a private company, don't correspond further with them until you've received further replies here.

I suggested the new thread because(according to their website) they do do LA parking. Better safe than sorry. Those more knowledgeable than I can advise better.

Central ticketing are usually associated with private car parks certainly but what you describe does sound like a municipal operation.

Any chance of scanning the ticket (both sides), removing the code numbers and personal details and sticking it up so.

However, if they have the date wrong, I'd be guessing the ticket is very likely unenforcable altogether.

Are Manchester Trams not part of the excerable Stagecoach empire?

Thanks for moving it. This is the first time I have used a forum so I don't know how it works!

There is no reference to railway byelaws on the ticket, and I think central ticketing are a private company.

No probs - we're here to help :)

If it's just a standard useless PPC ticket then that changes things - I'd say ignore them, but others may want to see a scanned copy of it (please remove any serial numbers, reg number, vehicle make, etc.) to confirm it's definitely a private ticket.

The reason I'm being cautious is that peter_the_piper said they do LA parking so best to make sure :)
  • Hi

I am not allowed to post attachments on the forum, so i can't show you the ticket... Do you need to see it or can I just tell you what's on it?

    Thanks

See the stickies for instructions on using tinypic and how to post them. Quite likely its a private invoice but best to be safe.

  • I have managed to upload photos of the front and back of the ticket on tiny pic but can't post links, so I will have to give you the link in another way!

  • Are the pictures working on tinypic. I only have until tomorrow to pay the fine before it goes up to £85. Is it something I need to be paying?

    Thanks
