Nokia 5800 vs Samsung Tocco

Hiya I was hoping I could get some user reports on the above two phones. I've read reviews but is there anything you wish you'd known before buying?

I did want the Omni but vodafone don't do it anymore.

Thank you

  • I've got the 5800 and am very pleased with it. The only thing that annoys me slightly is the fact that the predictive text will turn off for messages when a new contact/web address has been entered. It doesn't seem to remember that I want predictive text on for messaging!

It's fairly sturdy as well, no creaks/groans and the stylus is easy to use as well, despite reviews to the contrary.

The internet is quite slow though, even when using wi-fi. The final downside that I've found is that it is very easy to call people in your pocket if it is not locked, as usually wait for the automatic lock instead of doing it myself!

That doesn't kill the enjoyment of the phone however, as the touch screen is easy to use. It just takes some time to get used to it.

Well I can only speak for the Tocco Ultra if thats the tocco on Vodafone you are refering to.
Good camera, added benefit of proper keys aswell as touch screen. Divx playback for tv-movies etc. MUCH slimmer than the 5800. HSDPA 7.2 for quick web browsing.

Recommend you make a trip to a Voda shop and have a look at both.

Thanks, I had a look and I can see what they do, or don't. Was really hoping for a user report now that you've had it a while! Eg, is the battery as good as it says? Do you get used to the keyboard, or is it more hassel? How easy is it to transfer music and pictures?

The reason I want to be sure, is I'm going to agree a 2 year contract so I can keep the monthly cost down, so I don't want to end up with a phone that causes me lots of trouble.

Tocco Ultra is much more expensive than the normal Tocco. Both Toccos are non-smartphones.

Between the two I would choose the 5800 - battery life is excellent and copying musci is a peice of cake - just copy to memory card and update music library.

5800 has much more input methods. It's gonna be a tough choice, go instore and checkout both.
  • I find the battery life on the 5800 is about 4 days with normal usage. Much less than the 17 days standby life that they claim, and less than the 6300 which lasted me a week. I'm not sure if this is a battery fault or this is normal, although once on 5 bars, it lasts about 2 1/2 days, and then it will drop to 4 bars for another day, and then use the final 3 bars in about 4 hours. Anybody confirm if this is normal?

Battery life on the Ultra seems very good until you start browsing the web and watching video then its drained big time, only normal i suppose going on the quality of video playback and browsing.

I find Nokia bars very unreliable. Once I restart the phone then I find sometimes it drops 2 or 3 bars!

I suspect all Nokias are the same.
