Am I though only person that thinks that the legalisation of most drugs (bar Heroin/ opium/ crack) wouldn't be a bad thing at all as prohibition simply does not work.
I think you are right I think if we can tax it and QC it why not.
The only problem is the leading on to stronger things argument, if they did legalize it though at lease they could tax it in proportion to drain on resources.
Also if they did legalize it, next debate, Drugs tests at work.0 -

LOL< I just decided not to post a not dis-similar post,0 -
Drug addiction should be treated as a medical problem not a crime IMO.
Prohibition has failed and continues to fail and in most countries is racist - you don't see white middle-class students being arrested for taking and selling drugs (despite taking huge quantities, if my student days were anything to go by anyway) but you do see young black men being arrested and imprisoned for similar offences.

Even if drugs were legalised, would there not still be a black market for illegally imported cheaper drugs? Chances are, the hardened drug addicts wouldn't be able to afford the legal price.0

What no-one seems to be discussing is that many drugs are controlled because they are very dangerous, either in the short or long term, both to the individual and to society. Tens of thousands of heroin and crack addicts already commit vast amounts of crime in order to feed their habits. And these drugs are already very cheap. £5 a bag round here, or £5 a rock. Legal or illegal, addicts will still need to pay for it. And legalization would surely create huge numbers of new addicts.
I know the argument is different for less addictive drugs like cannabis, but we've already had that argument on another threadMy Debt Free Diary I owe:

I thought drug addiction was untreated... as it is so difficult to access any form of NHS support.0 -

Would they get a tax fine?
It's a hard one but that is the current situation anyway. I think making them legal and expensive is better than illegal and cheap.(as they are readily available anywhere now)
Look at cigarettes now. I watched ghostbusters the other day and thought god they are smoking in public. It is funny how perception changes over time.0 -

I didn't think taking or being addicted to Drugs was a crime.'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0
