i am in the legalize all drugs camp....it makes so much sense...
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

When I was between marriages I was seeing a young lady from 'Ballimore' ......it's a nice City, especially around the harbour (harbor) area and Camden Yards.

Havn't been to the 'nastier' parts so I can't comment, but the TV series is typical high quality US TV drama. (shame we can't make stuff like that over here)

did you ever go to hammerjacks.... i spent a lot of time in baltimore..

I strongly disagree. You're talking about laws restricting individual freedom to engage in acts that cause no harm to anyone else.
We do need some such laws to protect people from themselves, and prevent collateral damage to society or the economy, but we should think very carefully about them and only enact/tolerate them when the evidence of their overall benefit to society is overwhelming.

Why shouldn't I be able to consume unhealthy amounts of cheese, bacon, alcohol, tobacco, cocaine in the privacy of my own home if I so choose?

Best thing on TV right now. You feel me?
(And Avon Barksdale would be very firmly against legalising drugs!)

Best thing on t.v ever more like.:T

For those that are new to it and are reading this thread, wait 'til you see season 3.

With legalization comes regulation and education.

Regulation ensures pharmaceutical grade drugs which would negate a number of side effects of their illegal counterparts. As an example illegal heroin is detrimental to ones physical health due to the additional toxins. Clean heroin has no physical side effects other than those associated with withdrawals i.e. it will not poison the user but also isn't necessarily a good thing to take.

If we look at extacy the majority of deaths have been caused by users consuming too much water. Proper education would help no end and vastly reduce the number of deaths.

Personally I believe the majority of young people in this nation would choose cannabis over alcohol. This would solve our anti-social problems overnight.

Same old argument still holds as well, alcohol is a dangerous and highly addictive substance when compared to many of the illegal drugs. Legalization gives people the chance to make an informed choice and would solve a number of our societies woes. Anyone who drinks is a substance user, like it or not.

Its just a shame that so many people in this country are narrow minded and unwilling to undertake some proper research into the issues.

If your argument refers mainly to hard drugs that are without a doubt 'bad' for you, that implies that lots of people aren't currently on crack cocaine and heroin because it's illegal, but that legalisation would suddenly make people think 'oh well it's legal now, so I'll start a habit up'. Doesn't make much sense to me.

How can people seriously condone the idea of legalising heroin? Come on...people *would* start using it if it were made legal. Of course they would.

Let's just stay on topic and talk about the legalisation of Cannabis. As far as I can see, this is the only likely candidate.
At the end of the day, it's about what works, and evidently, outlawing everything hasn't worked very well. We still have the related crime, the addicts etc. Not exactly an ideal situation.

Who says outlawing isn't working well? It works ok for me. I can walk down the street and live my life without being directly influenced by the nuisance of drugs.

    Someone answer these points:

    1) Drugs are bad for society
    2) Legalisation increases consumption
    3) Increased consumption increases addiction and exposes more people to the established risks.

My motto is, you can't miss what you've never had. If you don't get addicted to something in the first place, you won't miss it.

Which does already happen in some sectors.

Utterly, utterly disagree. My ideal is that, so long as I'm harming no one else, people like you should leave me alone to do as I wish with my life.

Absolutely fine, just so long as you are prepared to pay for any resultant health care you may need and the consequences of your lifestyle choices don't impinge on anyone else's rights.

We keep getting told that there is plenty of research being undertaken but the govt only takes heed of the research that feeds into it's already held notions.

I believe that was what is meant by "so long as I'm harming no one else"
