I am about to move in to a house with no central heating at all, i wouild like a few questions answered if possible.
Firstly which raiators are the most efficient?.
What boilers (probaly combi or condensing) are most energy efficient?.
And should i have Thermostatic radiator valves on most of the radiators or have a room thermostat?.
I had hoped to have solar heating but its far cheaper having the boiler installed.
There is NO gas to the property at the minute so i have to have that put in first and then hope i can heat my home and afford to due to the ridiculous Gas prices we are paying at the minute.

Standard panel radiators don't vary very much, you get about 1500 watts/sq metre for a 50C temp drop across the rad. Single panel are more efficient than doubles but take up more space so you need to work out what heat output you want in each room and size your rads accordingly. Go to Myson and Stelrad sites for info.
New boiler installations have to be either SEDBUK A or B (about 90% efficient)and will be condensing.
Definitely have thermostatic valves on each rad apart from the one in the room thermostat area.Named after my cat, picture coming shortly0 -
I can get a combi if needed are they more efficient?.24 Cans in a case of lager,

You can get high efficiency (condensing ) boilers of either combi type, supplying direct central heating and domestic hot water OR system type, which supplies central heating directly but DHW indirectly via a hot water storage cylinder.jammymutt wrote:I can get a combi if needed are they more efficient?.Named after my cat, picture coming shortly0 -
As far as valves are concerned, I understood that you don't really have a choice all new insatllations must have a thermostaic valve on each rad??
Also on boilers, all boliers now have to be condensing, whether it's a combi or not is up to you each has it's benefits and downfalls.
I good place to find an installer and get a few quotes is
http://www.corgi-gas-safety.com and click on find an installer. Get quite a few quotes. Also I have found VAT is the major expense in all this, so someone who is VAT friendly is always helpful. If you also get a quote from British Gas, this is also useful if for nothing more than ideas, although they are far to pricey(even without the VAT).0 -
Hello,
I have just had a Vokera boiler with 7 thermostatic radiators and a room thermostat installed and it cost me £2800. The radiators are stelrad - apparently these are good. I live in a 3bed end terrace in Leeds, but I believe this price is reasonable.
I wouldn't recommend my plumber though. He removed my old wall heaters which left a hole to the outside, and just placed the new radiators over the top.
I discovered this whilst painting as I could hear the wind whistling and couldn't work out why.
When I asked him why he had done this, he told me he wasn't a builder and it wasn't his responsibility to tell me I had a 10cm squared gap in my house.
The cheek!0
