Quarteira in Portugal?

Options
Just wondered if anyone had been here? After our original plans to go to Tenerife/Egypt, this is the cheapest we have seen to go in October and we're going in October.:rotfl:

Not actually stopped there on holiday but visited twice when we have been on trips around the Algarve because it has a weekly market.I am of the opinion it is not a holiday destination like you would normally expect but more of a medium sized town with a beach .

I visited there once as we were staying in Loule (inland). It seems more like a place that the locals go and although there is a beach I dont think I would want to go there on holiday.
Could you not find any deals further along the Algarve ie Praia da Rocha, or Albufeira - there are many reasonably priced hotels on www.travelrepublic.co.uk

I'm also considering renting an apartment there in October at the moment foe 10 nights. Is it a small resort? The alternative is an apartment in Albufeira and I'm torn between the two at the moment.

If you're planning on renting a car, then it really doesn't matter where you stay, either place is fine, and you can go to the local beach or drive down the coast to any number of huge beaches, as crowded or as empty as you'd like.
In October you might still get some really nice days, and empty beaches :)

Hi, I stopped in Quarteira in 2007 i think it was May time which obviously is the other side of the season to your plans but it was excellent weather! As for the small town that it is, if you dont really move far from the pool you'll be ok as there really isnt much to do- its very local. The beaches are very good though.
There is a shanty town between here and the next town, Villamora which is a bit more popular with tourists -very nice and picturesque (golf resort there) (and is within walking distance but I wouldnt recommend the walk through the shanty unless you're with other people and certainly a no go after dark. )
For reference, im fairly old headed for an early - mid twenty something who likes a drink and a nice meal with the odd night out and appreciate a good surrounding and hotel. Personally, I wouldn't recommend it as a holiday destination however if you're just after some cheap sun and dont want to move far from a pool -it is a cheap getaway. With the Euro rate, it certainly wont be cheap to buy and eat once there but that goes for all of Europe. It really does depend upon what you're looking for from the holiday. Hope you find something good wherever you decide to go!I'll be camping in my back garden this summer instead!lol

Hi, i have been to The Algarve a few times and have been to Quarteira a few times be it only for the day to the beach. It does have a nice beach and Vilamoura is only next door depending whereabouts your staying in Quarteria. I don't think there is alot happening there but it does depend on what your wanting out of the holiday. The weather can be hit or miss in October but i have been in November and had some lovely days but was cold at night. How long are you planning on going for?

In reply to your dilemma they are as different as night and day. Albufeira is or can be quite busy maybe not so in October but has a lot more things going on i.e bars and restaurants. The old town is quite nice but the 'strip' is more like Benidorm?!( Never been to Benidorm but that's how i imagine it!LOL) if your not staying right in the middle but within easy reach of the centre then i may choose Albufeira over Quarteira. But that's my personal choice.
  • We're staying for a week at Pinhal Do Sol Hotel. Cheap as chips and all inclusive. We're not ones for going out partying and stuff so its ideal :o

We just came back from Quarteira and stayed at the 'Vila Gale Ampalius' hotel. Very nice place. We booked this hotel with www.xcapewithus.com . Their quote came out the cheapest. I did some research on this company and they have some good reviews from people who've used them, both on this forum and others. They're not members of Abta or Atol. Perhaps that's the reason they come out cheaper as you don't get charged Abta/Atol contributions?

"Xcape With Us do not try to deceive our customers by offering ineffective bonding, instead we pass on the cost savings of not being members of these associations and that is one of the reasons we can offer such competitive pricing". (This according to xcapewithus).

And no, I don't work for them or own the company. Just a satisfied costumer.
