7 Joints of Beef for £20

Uve cleared things up now I fully understand now. It never occured to me that if you cut up a long joint of meat across its length, then you would be left with more than one shorter piece.
Are you really trying to say something like this? .... i cant find joints small enough for the 2 of us in the shops and often end up wasting money buying a joint thats too big. I get around this by buying a joint that a multiple of the size a really want and cut it up to several pieces of the size actually want. Its a bit messy and the stringing sometimes comes loose but i put up with the hassle to save going to a butcher who would cut me a small joint but his prices are higher.0 -
Itsmeagain,
I think the OP was trying to point out that the bigger joints (which are usually cheaper per kg anyway and therefore OP's point is useful to know all the time) were on special offer, but not the smaller joints. Many people would be put off buying a big joint thinking they had to eat it all at once.
Being reminded by OP that you can cut these joints up to more manageable sizes is very useful and shows that even small families can make use of these bargains. It might be something that many people have done for years, but I am sure other readers would not have thought about it, even though its a no-brainer once you've heard it.
I am not sure your point about going to a butcher is relevant here, though. There's a whole thread devoted to shopping at a butcher's on the OS board if you are interested.
It's only a game

until seeing this thread i had never thought of buying a bigger joint and cutting it in half. We are family of 5 so it is just in half for us. I have bought one of the big pork joints today from asda and going cut it up. So thanks for the idea.Sealed Pot Challenge - No 1520Want to be debt clear by June 2012:j0

The other week we did the same with some Pork joints as well.
Does anyone else do this?
I do it with Sainsburys & Waitrose;)
Only beef, we don't eat pork.0
