  • Wow, just read this whole thread, some people are just totally rude, arrogant and unhelpful! I am in the same position you were in Michael. My fiance and I have a joint income of £83k and would really like to move, but no-one is buying our 1 bed flat. We have barely any savings as we are also havnig to pay for our wedding coming up in December. Some people on here can't understand that and obviously believe that they should work hard all their lives to 'save' their money! I could get hit by a bus tomorrow and loose any savings, so why not live comfortably and enjoy life! People like us are penalised for having such a lifestyle. My fiance is a teacher, and as we earn over £60k are not eligable for these schemes, so we just have to sit and wait, but I won't be changing my way of living just because a pathetic bank tells me to!

But on such a huge salary you can afford to buy your own place?

indeed, you could be hit by a bus tomorrow, but you could also live to a ripe old age, and be struggling and uncomfortable because of a failure to prepare. Lifestyle is important, one of the feature sof living in the western world, but when lifestyle prioritises over provision for normal expenditure...well...I think as a world we're seeing the effects of this right now with the credit crunch.

I'm not really seeing where they are being penalised personally :rotfl: They already own a flat albeit a one bedroom, and they have a joint income of 83k. Where is the penalty?
It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.

You have a joint income of £83,000 per year. You have "barely any savings". Please; learn some financially responsibility.

Because they earn near double the average UK wage, yet live in a 1 bedroom flat and are complaining about it!

They could have just got new jobs and new salaries ? Maybe not had long to save, or may find saving very boring.
