washing powder not dissolving in machine

Sounds like the waste pipe could be blocked or the pump maybe partially blocked.0

Thank you to everyone for your replies. I have not noticed a smell from inside the machine. It does seem better if I use less powder. It is worse when I wash dark clothes.0

OUr washing machine (Hotpoint) has a flap in the powder drawer that must be in the down position for using washing liquid instead of powder. If I forget to push it back up after using delicate washing liquid, then the powder doesn't dissolve.
Might be worth checking your manual to see if you have a flap like this on your machine? If you don't have the manual, you can usually find a copy online by Googling your model number.0 -
Just to update. had washing machine engineers in. They said parts on the motor needed repair. They took motor away, brought it back, fitted it and charged me £65. However, its no better at all. Powder still on dark clothes even though I put them back in to rinse several times, and not washing well either. Will have to get enginers back.0

Are you following the dose instructions fully? It's so easy to guess the correct amount and get it wrong.;)
I always use powder (not tablets or liquid) and have marked a plastic cup (with black lines) to make it easy to get the correct amount for each load.
Following on from what Nile said, all the major soap powder manufacturers have made modifications to the powder recently, you need less now to do the same job.
A thought from me, have you tried bunging the powder in the drum instead of the drawer? I do, i use less powder because all of it is dissolved where its supposed to be dissolved - in the drum and not the pipes that lead from the drawer to the drum. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. i use powder but is there a liquid washing powder you could use, if you know what i mean. or i have read that we should sometimes run the machine on a very hot setting, empty to clean out the hoses etc0

That sounds odd - what parts - I would have thought that the motor runs or doesn't ??
whilst liquid may solve the problem, and I'd recommend it, it still doesn't sound right - it's almost as though there isn't enough water in the machine.0 -
thats why i said to run the machine on empty, hottest setting, an engineer once said to me fabric conditioner isnt good for washing machines, presume it clogs the hoses and maybe restricts flow of water0

there's a thread on old style o/s ( soz can't link ) advising to pt soda crystals and white vinegar in the washer to clean it out.0

Thanks to everyone for replies. I will try to clean machine with soda crystals and white vinegar as suggested, and I will measure powder and put it straight into machine. Not pleased with washing machine engineers, I will try these tips before calling them again.0
