Advice on Student Finance for Uni

Hi,

I have a small query about applying for student finance for uni and was wondering if anyone could offer any advice.I've applied to several uni to do social work this year, my application is still being processed by the universities and I've not been offered any places yet but I've been wondering would I be able to start applying for bursaries and funding or would I have to wait until I've been offered a place?

any advice would be appreciated :)

thanks

I think you need to wait until you've got a firm choice as you have to put the details of your course in. However I'm not entirely sure and suggest you try to start your application anyway - then if you can't complete it due to not having an offer yet you can save it and fill in the rest later.

For full-time students, the quickest and easiest way to apply for Student Loans, grants and bursaries is to do it online. If you’re a new, full-time student you can apply for finance as soon as you've made your course application.

I have just applied although have a place already and somewhere in the paperwork I read that you don't need to have been offered a place to start the application process.

I'd wait to see if you get accepted on course? My wife's social work answer was 1 week after the interview...

Altho it was a Master degree instead of bachelor entry.

    Hi,

I'm about to apply to student finance in the next week or so, and have a question. It asks for the bank account I want my funds going to but don't have my student account yet so can only put my current account. This isn't actually the account I want the money to go into obviously so what am I supposed to do?

When do the funds get paid in? And can I change the bank account in a few months when I get a student account?

You can change your account details when you get a student account. Money usually gets put into your account within a week of your start date at university. If you're worried about not being able to change your details in time, keep your current account open until your first payment that way it won't matter which bank account it goes into.

You have to wait till you get accepted somewhere before you can fill out your student loan...

It doesnt matter if you do it late, as there isnt really any deadline to get the payment in (i got a whole year before my tuition fees got sorted out)

You will usually get your loan straight into your bank account the day you start uni, and tution fees go straight to the uni (you will have to take a peice of paper into uni to show that they are getting their money)

    Hi thanks for the responses.

MrsManda - that's a relief. I thought there would be a problem with my student account if the money didn't go straight into it. I should be able to change details in time if they only pay it close to the start date anyways.

JamesJamz, Even though I don't think your response was directed towards me... I have been given unconditional offers and have chosen one of them as the one to go to this year. Is that what you mean by getting accepted?
I can't confirm/accept my place just yet because one Uni is taking ages to give me an offer and UCAS track doesn't let me 'reply' to any of them until I get the last one. Does this sound right, or am I doing something wrong!?

    Thanks again for the info.

Not the experience of most students I'm afraid-my daughter started last September and the whole place was in uproar because it took so long for everyone to get their finance sorted. It was over 3 weeks before my daughter got her loans and grant, even though she applied really early. She was hassled constantly by the Uni in that time to pay her accomodation and tuition fees but just had to ride the storm.
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!

    Wow even for the grant?

I thought you'd get the grants before the loans!!

Think I might have to rethink my plans. Unfortunately I can't move into student halls so I'll need the money up front to move in before term starts! Dunno where I'll get the money now tbh, how upsetting.
