Hi All MSE,
I've just taken out a contract with T-Mobile having been on 3 for the past four years. I need to set-up international calling as I'm planning on going on holiday in the next couple of months. They've asked me to pay a £200 deposit before they will let me.
Anyone know if this is just because I am a new customer or is there another reason behind it?

it's likely just to be because of the credit check, the networks seem to have 2 parts to the credit checks one for the handset and a the second for roaming,
how long before you go on holiday? it may be worth forgeting roaming for now and if your holiday is over 3 months plus away apply then for roaming, they may allow the roaming minus deposit because you have some kind of repayment history (i have no idea about t-mobile in particular though so...)Yes Your Dukeiness0 -
Thanks for the help Reehsetin, my holiday could be within three months of taking out the contract, going to book a last minute holiday with the GF. I need to occasionaly call abroad but have discovered this evening I can use Skype on my G1, so the immediate problem is over.
Would they perform a Credit Search when I apply for roaming or just do an internal check ased on my history with them?0 -
they scored you when you signed up, they dont need to rescore you again for roaming. The fact you asked for roaming means the system just looked at their score you got when you signed up and made the calculation on how much a deposit will be.
At the time of sign up, all new customers are credit scored with an external agency. This is no different to any other network.0 -

If you remain with them for 3 months and have no payment issues.
ie: 3 payments going through via direct debit, This used to negate the need for a deposit in the past.
So might be worth leaving the roaming facility too for the time being in case you end up not going away in the next 3 months.0 -

It's Skype Lite, I just searched for it on the Market. Spoke to my friend on her German mobile in Germany (not as silly as it sounds she's on holiday out there) and cost me 16p a minute against....(t-mobile website not loading but I know it will be more)0
