According to Plusnet (my ISP) there have been problems today with the internet Domain Name Servers (DNS), which convert the nice easy names like https://www.google.co.uk into their actual numerical addresses. I found problems getting to google, but other sites were affected too.

I still think it's a BT problem (what, with both BT and Google vying for being the Internet's best police force, they are bound to collide at some stage
) but have also reported the issue to Google now. Let's see whether any sensible response comes back. Doubt it will, but as long as they get their acts together and we don't suffer more interrupts, I don't actually care about a response.
*!*HIBS*!*, I can't quite subscribe to your theory because I have been using the same setup since last June without any problem, and with zero mods on my machine, everything sprung back into life at around 5pm, and again shortly after the second outage at 8 pm. The problem also exists not only for Gmail, but for Google as well.0 -

We suggest adding 'gmail.google.com' as an exception to any ad blocking, script blocking, or pop-up blocking rules.
If that doesn't help, we recommend disabling the software, clearing your browser's cache, and logging in to Gmail again.
