The outage is also affecting north west wales, could be 72 hours + to rtpair! Alan.

i'm in northern ireland and had no wireless connection from saturday till last night. then it was off again today. had to reet wireless router. this isn't anything to do with tiscalis money worries is it?

From what I have read online, Tiscali is a profit making business in the uk, and is up for sale, possible that sky is interested. The parent company in Italy is in trouble financially, so they may sell off the uk business as a money making concern. My friend switched to Tiscali for b/band and telephone just before Christmas, and has not had a single problem. I have been watching and waiting, with a view to switching to save myself quite a bit of money.

not much we can do really, if you ask them if they are going bust, they want names to give to there legal department, over it, according to CS they are NOT going bust, on Saturday there main server had issues in London, I am in North Yorkshire, wish I lived somewhere where I had a good choice.
BskyB dropped out of the running for the buying of the uk company.
so we will be the last to here as usual.

If you get your router/modems to work, I suggest you leave them on, as I did on sunday night it hasn't been off since.

Could those on tiscali and affected by this problem confirm if their broadband speed is slow, You can check this at http://www.speedtest.net/ . Alan.

I've found this explanation on another site :-

someone killed a BT coms tunnel in london.. wiped out half southcoast circa 70k users, not just adsl, but switched circiuts.. also knocked out emergency services for a bit.

This briefing on a cable damage incident in East London is for all Communications Providers.

Openreach can confirm that, following significant damage, by a third party, to cables in a deep underground tunnel on the afternoon of Saturday 4th April, a large number of end users in parts of East London are currently experiencing a loss of service.

A third party contractor has caused significant damage to one of our deep underground tunnels resulting in the loss of service to a large number of end users in parts of East London.

Due to the nature of the damage, which happened 32 meters below street level, and the restricted access to the site, it is not possible at this stage to provide an exact timeframe as to when service will be restored to all customers.

Because of the severity of the damage, the tunnel is completely blocked and to restore the cables they will need to be brought up to the surface either side of the tunnel and then routed over land through existing and new duct. The new duct is being built today as we gain permission to close roads and do the necessary work.

As a consequence of this large scale operation it may be some days before we see all services fully restored.

Openreach engineers are working extremely hard to resolve this situation and we have already successfully restored service to a number or affected end users in the early hours of Sunday morning using alternative methods of connection.

Have the problems with the tunnel been fixed? does anyone know? I am at my parents today but it wasnt working friday when I left mine.
