HELP! Missed delivery and now courier expects collection!

I 'missed' a major delivery yesterday according to Business Post (Even though someone was in all day and we have a intercom electronic gate so it is nearly impossible to miss visitors)
Now they say "Awaiting collection" at the depot which is at least an hour there and an hour back. Which is a bit hard to get to, considering I don't have a driving license or a van!!!
There is 9 or 10 boxes in the delivery and total weight is close to 100kg!
What can I do now? If they get returned to sender I'm probably going to have lost my item AND my money since he is impossible to contact and only accepted a cheque payment

Is there not a number on the card for you to ring to rearrange collection and to find out what happened?Weight Loss - 102lb0

If i track deliveries on the internet they normally have wrong details on, Im not sure if you have done this, rang them or are going off what they said on the card.
Have you contacted Business post to see if you can reschedule the delivery? Mention that you was in all day and your 100 % no one came.Lightbulb moment January 2006 ..This spendings got to stop..things can only get better :T0 -
You will probably be able to pay for redelivery.
Not an ideal solution I know, but it is the easiest.0 -
This has happened to me before and it makes me wary of sellers who don't use Royal mail, but choose obscure delivery companies instead. I have had problems a couple of times when the depot was a two hour bus journey away and the company made a fuss about redelivering the parcel. The Royal Mail may be awful at times, but at least it has depots all over the place! You'll just have to ring the company and beg!0

Business Post isnt exactly an obscure delivery company - does the card say they wont be trying to redeliver?Weight Loss - 102lb0

When they leave a card that means that you can either collect or arrange re-delivery. Definitely worth an attempt at calling them up and asking if they will re-deliver and politely explaining that you were in all day and therefore you couldnt have missed the delivery the first time around.0

Some couriers will allow two deliveries before keeping at the depot. Have they tried to deliver before?
After the two attempts you'll need to collect yourself or possibly pay for another delivery attempt.
If they left a card, give the number a call and try to arrange another day for delivery. The £2.00 Coin Savers Club = approx £22.00  :j.. The 20p Savers Club = £17.80.

watch out, they DO do this regularly, particularly if your place is 'off the route' a bit
just ask nice if they can re-deliver, they usually do at no chargemoney saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

Did they leave a card? Carrier drivers who are pressed for time seem to skip more difficult or remote drops and list them as 'attempted and left a card' to cover themselves. If you have not been carded they have not actually been at all. I would phone Business Post as others have suggested to arrange a delivery time. Good luck!0

Well I phoned them up, after having no reply to my email. Was prepared for a fight but had to keep redialling just to get a answer, when I finally got through I informed the nice woman on the other end of my problem and she arranged a redelivery tomorrow (I hope anyway) - Also told her to make a note of our electric gate and intercom system!...Will leave gate slightly open tomorrow too so no excuses.
Half of my items will probably be smashed too pieces now but there you go
(I figured out they really should have no problem in the whole second delivery attempt, since they would only have to deliver them back to the sender anyway!)0
