The suzuki is a nice car we had on as a loan car once stopped on hills though (small engine)
Have a look at the Hyundia range, 5 year warrenty on them:j, more goodies than the rest as standard and cheap too.
They are slagged off by everyone who has never owned one or at least a late 05 onwards.Spending my time reading how to fix PC's,instead of looking at Facebook.0 -

.
Most cars are struggle with the base engine.
I'm slightly concerened at OP's overwhelming concern for the cheapest motoring. You do after all have to live with it and if costs are that vital perhaps second hand is a better bet.0 -

Interesting... I don't find that at all... they come with 1.3 engine in basic... (where for example the Fiesta in basic comes with 1.25 which does not pull the weight of the car what so ever:eek:)
I also looked at the Hyundai... The I20 is very pretty car I think. Where the I20 - well, I am not that keen on..:D0 -

Hi Hintza,
Cheap motoring is what I'm after, having had terrible experience with my current car and not being mechanically minded enough to be able to tackle these issues myself, I've seen a lot of money thrown away, needless to say I've lost a lot of sleep worrying about these petty issues anticipating what the garage were going to quote me next!
I've now started looking at cars which are around 1 year old, or at least have less than 10,000 miles. I've been looking at a 2008 (old model) ford fiesta 1.4 diesel. Cheap tax, cheap insurance, good space, good economy and looks pretty good too! I'd probably then spend the £250-£300 on an extended warranty for the peace of mind I'm really after.
I'll continue with my travels, although my budget is around £8,000, if I can spend less that would obviously be ideal.0 -
What is the "very rare sought after sports hatchback which I love to bits" ?0

Let me have a guess - a Clio Williams Sport?0

Although it will suffer a bit of depreciation you might do worse than a Hyundai i10 new which comes with a 5 year warranty. If you don't intend keeping it for that length of time you are quite correct in looking for a car around a year old.
If it was me I would get a copy of What Car and use the running cost figures they give to figure out which is the best way forward. (don't treat the figures as gospel but they will be a useful guide)0 -
Up to a year old, £8000, now your talking.
How about getting yourself world car of the year 2008, one of the lightness in it's class, just about the most fuel efficient, best handling, holds it's value better than most and I think it looks good:

1.3 TS2 has more power output than the 1.3 TS and then there is the 1.5 Sport.
The older model Mazda2 looks about as exciting as a concrete fence post.
Fiat 500 anyone

If one of your criteria is looks then knock Ford KA off the list LOL
What is the sought after hatchback you have at the moment out of interest? This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0 -

Or even a Getz, they are now superceded by the i20, but there are still some real bargains to be had.
5 year warranty, A/Con, CD player etc. etc.
All for under £6k0
