Sky Box problems: Please Help!

Hi Folks,

I am no more contracted to sky but enjoying their free channels.

My box fell last saturday. On returning it to the shelve, the picture is no more showing. It is blank(white).

The audio is ok. I can go to any channels that i remember the epg number but its not showing.

I have unplug, check the cables etc. Its still the same thing.

Please help.

My comprehensive technical analysis leads me to conclude that dropping it has broken it (or at least broken the video output). eBay is your next port of call.

So i have to get rid of the box?

Well unless one of the cables was damaged when it fell there, is only the box that can be faulty-I assume your dish is still attached!
Get yourself a second hand box and a Sky viewing card-about £22 for the latter I think.

    1) Of what use is the sky viewing card? I've lost mine about 2 years ago but it has never affected my viewing.

    n.b: It has t6his f-type plug.

    Cheers

Bear in mind that there are usually two scart connectors on these boxes. Could be that the fall has damaged one of them. Hopefully not both. Try both scart sockets with known working scart cables.

A new card won't be necessary, but a new box might.

The scarts is one for video and the other one to be connected to TV. Isnt it?

The audio is ok but blank(white) picture. I was suspecting the F-type plug.

    Thanks

Yeah, but it doesn't really matter where the scart goes to. I think maybe the video one doesn't have OSD overlays? That'd make sense.

It won't be the f-connector, because it goes to the LNB and dish. If there was anything wrong with that, it wouldn't be able to tune the channels and you'd get no sound or picture.

I thought a viewing card was necessary to view the free-to-air channels if you are not subscribed-presumably an existing card won't work with the replacement box?

FTAir is viewable without a card. FTView you need the card for.

Your existing card will be needed to view FTV stuff. Can't tell you if you'll need to call sky to get them to pair it with the new box or not. I don't see why you would though.
