Problem with BBC iPlayer on Nokia 5800

I've recently unlocked my nokia 5800 but can't seem to get bbc iplayer to run properly. I can get into it via my mobile internet connection, but every time i try and play a programme it asks me if i want to connect to the server, so I say 'yes', but after that it tells me i need to define an access point and then kicks me out of the program. I've tried define my access point as best I can in my connection settings but still no luck.

My mobile internet seems to run ok, although there were a few teething problems when I first tried it after unlocking my mobile, but this was sorted after posing the question on here the other day.

Any ideas anyone?

Cheers,
JR

BBC iPlayer works on my wi fi connection. However, once the clip has begun to play, then I select to save the clip - which I can call something else - and it then saves to "gallery". The saved files sits in the Realplayer option within the Applications menu. I can then play back the saved clips anywhere I like - don't have to be then connected to wifi!!!!!!!!!!! Brilliant for work in my lunch-hour! I am using v 11.0.009 software.
  • Can you please advise how you actually "save" the iplayer downloads to your 5800. I have successfully downloaded many iplayer programmes to my phone but can only play them back when connected to wi-fi. When playing clips back, there is no option to "save" them on the phone!

DAVE151515, you say you can only play back your saved programmes when connected via wifi? Not just 3G connection? If you are playing back saved clips, I don't understand what you mean when you say there is no option to save them (again?) on the phone.

On the 5800, you can watch programmes on iPlayer when you are connected via wifi. You cannot watch if only connected via 3G. However, when watching via wifi - you have the option to save the programme so that you can watch it later. The saved programme can then be watched later - whether connected to wifi or just 3G.

To save programmes (via wifi only) - you start to watch the programme, then you press the options menu (bottom RHS) where you have a "save" choice, this then brings up the name of the programme (default name is something like "streaming N95 blah blah from what I can remember!) - but you can change this to a more meaningful name. The 5800 saves the file to store automatically in the Gallery. When you go to the Applications option, select Realplayer and from within there - look in the "streaming links" to find your saved programme. The saved programme can now be watched whether connected via wifi or 3G.

    Hope this helps!
  • Hi Jools88
Thank you so much for the information. It now works fine. The problem was that I was trying to save the clips (via 3G), without having started to watch them via wi-fi first. I now have the necessary "save" command listed under the "options" menu, whch I couldn't find.
You have saved me fom hours of further frustration. The supplied Nokia manual is really worse than useless!
    Thanks again.
  • I thought I had resolved this but no.
I can only play back saved clips when in range of my wifi network; I cannot play them when only connected to the mobile signal away from home. Can anyone please advise whether there is something I should check under "settings" on the phone.

You mean you don't have the download option either. This is only available on v20 firmware. I am using v11 right now but I have just checked on the Nokia website and v20 is now available for my phone 0576524 - (it wasn't yesterday!) which I believe to be the majority of O2 red phones. So - when I get home - I shall be updating my firmware and then - the download option will be available on the iPlayer - I hope!

I got a 5800 a couple of weeks ago - updated the firmware from the Nokia site and then downloaded the iPlayer from the BBC site. Works fine but I just use my home Wifi to download clips to the gallery for watching on the bus :D
