Can anyone help.

About one month ago I came home from work to find a letter from a debt collection agency asking for £95.10 for unpaid water bill. After I had picked myself up of the floor i rang United Utilities and asked what the hell was going on.

She rang me back and said sorry your D/D has been cancelled at our end but she didn't know why so your account has been put through to our debt agency. Even though it was not my fault she said it would take 28 days for my account to go back to them from the debt agency and then I could set up a new D/D. I was in shock so I just cleared the a/c ( by borrowing of my mum)

I sent a letter of complaint to United Utilities as I am really worried that I will be blacklisted now and we are in the process of looking to remortgage. They have not replied at all, but did send me a new bill for the next year.

I am so mad I asked for a reply within 10 working days but have had nothing.

What is my next step?

    Hi

Did you not notice that your DD had stopped going out? anyway...

You're best bet is to call the complaints department on

    0845 309 4096 (if you have a meter).
    0845 309 4097 (if you don't have a meter).

    See
    http://www.unitedutilities.com/?OBH=2726
for more on their complaints procedure.

Ask what stage your complaint is at - they will be able to chase it up.

Going to a debt collection agency doesn't blacklist your credit file (as far as I am aware) Only if it goes onto court action will it affect your credit file.

Your next stage would be to write to watervoice (see details on the link above).

    Good Luck!

Don't worry about these letters - I get debt collection agency letters quite regularly from Powergen (they mess up the billing regularly). They don't show up on my credit rating though, however, missed payments might show up on a credit rating? They do for credit cards.
