I should think so... but I can't work out what would be in pastry mix... isn't it just flour????

Soappie - you need to teach toots to make her own pastry. I'm shocked and horrified! (next she'll tell us that she has pancake mix too ;))

Which reminds me... the girl who sits opposite me at work is vegetarian and doesn't eat eggs. She was eating custard from the canteen for lunch, and when we questioned her about it, said 'well the ambrosia stuff doesn't have egg in it...' . I have two questions - 1. what makes her think that the canteen use ambrosia custard? and 2. if it doesn't have egg in it, what's it made of?!

I can actually make pancakes I will have you know!!!! havent done for years as I lost my griddle and have never replaced it.

I got the pastry mix (4 packets!!!!) courtesy of the GC thread when someone posted that it was only 9p! I have some rhubarb in the freezer that I thought I would make into a pie! It is puff pastry - ingredients are Wheat flour, veg oils, salt, flour treatments agent(ascorbic acid). I know its meant to be for sausage rolls but it was so easy as you only add water - even I can manage that!!

Greenbee - I'm educating Toots with baby steps :) I'll have her mixing her own pastry v. soon.

And the ambrosia stuff - I've put my Miss Marple hat on and have the answers

    1) I deduce she asked the canteen what they used
    2) Ambrosia tinned custard contains:

Ingredients: Skimmed Milk, Buttermilk, Sugar, Modified Starch, Vegetable Oil, Whey, Flavouring, Colours (Curcumin, Annatto), Total Milk Content 73%

Not a hint of egg there - whey is made from milky stuff.

Eurgh... don't fancy that at all! I think I'll have to make my own from now on (although given how much weight I need to lose, I don't think I'll be eating custard for a while ).

Toots - I've just checked my mail. Thank you! :A It's lovely. Now do you have a list of what you absolutely HAVE to do before your next hospital appointment (e.g. making sure you have clean bedding, enough clean clothes to last you through, quick meals to last you through, online shopping lists set up in case you need to restock, friends lined up to come round and make you cups of tea etc), and can we see it so that we can make sure you do it?

    Off to find the bath...
