We fancied a large storage/display unit from M&S I took the catalogue into our local pine furniture manufacturer and they built something similar but to our exact specs in oak for a fraction of the cost in MDF and hardboard.

Worth a look if you have a local place....

This company states....The finest quality oak furniture using only 100% seasoned hardwood timbers and made by skilled cabinetmakers. Why go to the likes of Next, Laura Ashley , John Lewis , Marks and Spencer , DFS, it's here at a fraction of the cost. Coffee tables, dining..

Have you tried going direct to http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Container-Clearance-Company
thats their ebay addy or theres http://www.oakfurnitureland.co.uk/ and thats their non ebay site.

I can say that my relative did order from here and was pleased with the coffee table she ordered.

    Hope this helps .

I bought a solid oak large tv unit from the Ebay site above, you can make them an offer, which they accepted and we paid £150 for the unit. It was a few years ago, now thinking of buying more from them.

    Hi there
We bought 3 items from container clearance through Ebay - coffee table, unit and tv stand about 18 months ago and the quality is second to none, I am so pleased with them. They are great and much cheaper than the shops, and they are all SOLID oak throughout, unlike some of the shop ones which are oak but then things like drawer bottoms etc are not. They also come fully assembled. I would definitely recommend them, and I do not work for them or I am not on commission either! :rotfl:LOL. Enjoy your furniture whatever you go for.

    hey primula

thanks for that BUT and this is a BIG BUT- when i read the info about how to take care of the solid oak- I decided that oiling it 4 times a year would not happen hence any money saved may be lost by the poor condition the items would end up in!

have gone to Darnel- Sheffield care of Emujiuce- looked goo in there lots on offer.

I've never oiled my tv unit, nor does it look like it needs doing. I would take that with a pinch of salt tbh.

ok our house is a mess -

and need to sort it out- visited John Lewis Sheffield and suprise suprise liked the look of

Monterey Furnitire line- sideboard/display and book cases - total £ 1400

and a Meile hoover ( wait for it )...£250 (( ok so i watched there promotional advert for the S7 series on the meile website and i believe its going to clean the house on its own and life will eb wonderful with it).

I tried to save money so far by
    1. asking the john lewis lady- if we were to buy two big items and spend alot of money could we get a discount---she looked at me like I was scum and stated no " we treat all our customers the same no matter how much they spend ". (( i did read the haggling section- obvoiusly not so well)).

2.Considered opening a John Lewis card- points and vouchers- only gives me 15-20£ worth of voucher for £1400 ish. I would want to do better.

    3. Looked other places- ie M&S and Laura Ash.- couldn't find a comparable.

    Any more ideas ?

    thanks

    John Lewis always price match
you might come unstuck if this is a
    John Lewis own grand furniture
Have you googled the name of the furniture ?
    Might turn up something.

As for the Meile Vac they will match that
on price if its cheaper elsewhere.

Have to say as a previous owner of
one of these. We found that when the
motor went on the head and it it was a £97
repair which we were staggered over.
Just out of the guaruntee period

At this point we cut our losses donated
it to one of those places that do repairs
and pass onto low income families.
went back and bought a Henry which has
stood up to dog and cat hairs and general
everything much better.I am a big fan of
Meile but not too impressed with the vacuums

Do quidco or similar do John Lewis ?
that way it would be cash instead of
    vouchers.

    .

    hey rosekitten

1.we have a henry - ok but not good for retaining allergens etc- i think most of the dust gets chucked back into the room- hence meile since got good reiews for this from the which ! tests. There is a current £30 for 10 year guarentee which i will take out judging from the cost of repairs you quoted

2.John lewis isn't on quidco or greasy- the only way of making money on the spend was doing it on a john lewis card or cash back card- and the 5% off doesnt make it affordable.

3.Price matching- yes I can get the electric one priced matched...looking into it.

    thanks
